Fourth Wall, a new UK esports organisation set up by the brains behind London Esports, Bulldog Esports and Absolved, hope to unite the UK esports community.

They are also the former management staff of X7 Esports, who recently ceased operations.

Update (February 12th 2023):

The esports organisation have announced their first event, a live NLC match and community meet-up at Staffordshire University London.

The announcement comes after Fourth Wall struck a partnership with Staffordshire University.

Original article:

The Fourth Wall team consists of the following:

  • Alfie Wright, London Esports’ founder/CEO and Socios esports partnership manager, who became X7’s COO after X7 acquired London Esports
  • Tony ‘Newts’ Newton, head of operations and Bulldog Esports founder, who became X7’s director of esports after X7 acquired Bulldog Esports
  • Robin ‘Robinho’ Cheng, manager of Absolved who became X7’s head of League of Legends after X7 acquired Absolved
  • Nile ‘Oldboy’ Lynch, former X7 academy team manager

The four will hold similar roles at Fourth Wall to those they had at X7 together, and they will grow the Fourth Wall team over the coming weeks and months.

The organisation will compete in League of Legends NLC Division 2 and use the London Esports socials, rebranded to Fourth Wall. They will also have a Fourth Wall academy team.

Speaking of branding, the logo is avoiding blacks and usual colours some esports orgs opt for, instead going for vibrant, pastel vibes in a bid to make Fourth Wall approachable to everyone, not just the typical audience.

The Fourth Wall NLC Division 2 roster features the following:

The idea behind the brand is to be more community focused, with as many as two events held per week to engage with the community, following on from the old proving grounds that London Esports used to deliver. Fourth Wall plan to run regular productions of their games in-person with a live audience, casters and hosts, in East London.

Fourth Wall hope to also have panels, prizes and more, to give the events a sort of home ground vibe. Not every event will feature the Fourth Wall players.

Why Fourth Wall were set up: ‘UK LoL is at its most desperate point – let’s take a crack at it’

Alfie Wright

Esports News UK editor Dom Sacco caught up with Fourth Wall CEO Alfie Wright (pictured above) about the new organisation

“I think there’s a lot of merit to what X7 has done in UK League, from player sales to the names they brought on board,” Alfie said. “I was asked to come on board and steady the ship, they didn’t have a lot of structure – which happens in many orgs, it’s hard to balance your work life with esports.

“So I came on board to bring structure, and I brought Meg Sunshine to the team to try to find commercial opportunities, which we did quite well but not enough in time.

“When X7 closed, I spoke to Newts, Robin and Nile. I’ve done my dream as anyone else in this industry and get a job in esports with Socios. It’s easy for me to say, “I’ve got an esports job and can step away, but after speaking to Newts we felt like we’re not done yet. We’ve got too many contacts, ideas and too much ambition to not try and help.

“With NLC losing its accreditation and other changes, LoL in the UK is probably at its most desperate point, since I’ve been around in esports. So, let’s take a crack at it.

“I think we have really good ideas, we have brands that want to work with us. We have talented people like Robin, Newts and Nile and others to be announced soon, so let’s still carry on with what we did at London, in a sense.”

“We had players like Mezii who is now at Fnatic. You look at Soulcas, L1NK, Ardis, NoName, who played for us in the UKEL at 15 years old.

“And it’s not only players, but other people like Middlecott, who started his first cast in our proving grounds and has gone on to be a name in the UK now. Josh Mulgrew was manager at London Esports for a couple of years too, for example, and suggested Middlecott to us. Jonas Kontautas, who is now at British Esports, did stuff with us. Matthew Watson on the performance coaching side started with us. Developing people makes me happy, if we can capture brands to help us do that… and do what we did before.

“That’s why we came back, basically. Let’s do it again and hopefully do something bigger. This idea of a live performance, we’ll be helping so many people do their first production, first casting. We want to do more stuff like that, help the grassroots, help casters, players, staff and fans, give opportunities to people and shake up this ecosystem.”

Alfie also said he’ll be balancing Fourth Wall with his full-time job with Socios, which has blockchain fan tokens in esports and sports.

Expect more Fourth Wall announcements around their team, events and more soon.
