Isle of Man-based organisation X7 Esports have acquired yet another esports organisation – London Esports – for an undisclosed fee.

As a result of the acquisition, London Esports’ founder and CEO, Alfie Wright, has been named X7 Esports’ new chief operating officer (COO).

The news comes after X7 announced they had acquired another UK org, Bulldog, last September, and Absolved in October.

Esports News UK wrote an opinion piece at the time, titled: ‘Are X7 the next powerhouse in UK League of Legends?’

The news will surely only add to the Thanos memes created of X7 founder and CEO Josh ‘Hyrav’ Kingett.

Trev aka TJ ‘Nudo’ Harwood, the existing X7 COO and formerly of Absolved, has moved into a different, not-yet-announced role at X7.

Alfie Wright will be tasked with streamlining business development at X7, building upon the company’s partnerships portfolio with the introduction of a dedicated partnerships team – and helping to diversify revenue streams.

“X7 have already proven their potential as an esports team. This is the perfect time for me to come on board, working alongside Josh and the team to help steady the ship as we look to cement our spot at the highest competitions in multiple titles.”

X7 Esports also recently appointed Meg Sunshine as partnerships executive.

In addition to on-boarding new staff, X7 Esports will take ownership of the London Esports office at the Here East technology campus, situated in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Hackney, East London.

All these changes come X7 won the Spring 2022 NLC (Northern League of Legends Championship) Division 1, before going on to reach the top eight in the Spring 2022 EU Masters with Bifrost.

They also got fans excited when X7 Esports stunned EU Masters champions Karmine Corp in a 28-minute stomp.

What X7 and London Esports said about the deal: ‘We’ll be moving into new esports and this partnership brings in experts in games we’re less familiar with’

London Esports founder Alfie Wright said: “After initial discussions with Josh regarding his plans around building X7 Esports, we both realised similarities in our ideas of what we wanted to achieve in this space. After growing London Esports for the better part of half a decade, I believe this is the perfect opportunity to use my experience alongside Josh and secure a long-term future for X7 Esports.

“X7 have already proven their potential as an esports team in their previous 12 months of operations. This is the perfect time for me to come on board, working alongside Josh and the team to help steady the ship as we look to cement our spot at the highest competitions in multiple titles.”

Alfie also added more in this Twitlonger post, saying that it was a tough call to make to move on from London Esports.

“I spent the better side of half a decade developing London Esports to where it is today and met some incredible people throughout that journey,” he added. “I’m proud to have made even a small impact within the scene and I hope that we were able to push other teams further and help set a higher standard for UK esports.”

Josh Kingett, founder and CEO at X7, added:

“We are constantly evaluating ways in which we can strengthen our infrastructure and accelerate growth. It was clear from the beginning of my conversations with Alfie, that he held a wealth of experience I believed would add value to X7.”

“I had already been very impressed with his ability to secure partnerships with prominent brands such as Steelseries, Roccat and [London Esports’ training facility at] Here East, and I look forward to seeing what we can achieve together.”

Antony ‘Newts’ Newton, director of esports at X7, and formerly of Bulldog, commented: “Despite our success as a new organisation in League of Legends, there were areas within X7 that needed refinement. In order to reach new audiences, we will be moving into new esports titles, and this partnership with London brings subject-matter experts in those [games] that we’re less familiar with.

“I already have a strong relationship with Alfie, built upon mutual respect and a shared vision. It’s very exciting to have the opportunity to work alongside him in the advancement of X7.”
