SpecialEffect announce London charity walk for 25th September

SpecialEffect has announced its sponsored walk, taking place in London on 25th September, 2026. The UK charity that helps people with physical disabilities access video games, is inviting the gaming industry to take part in its One Special Walk fundraising event.

The walk starts and finishes at Fulham Football Club, winding primarily along the Thames towpath and taking in Twickenham Stadium, Richmond Park and Kew Gardens.

The main route is 18 miles, described as tough but achievable, with an eight-mile shorter option also available for those who want to take part at a more accessible distance. A Virtual Walk option is also open for supporters who cannot make it to London on the day.

Last year’s walk raised £140,000 for SpecialEffect‘s work. It brought with it fun, inclusion and independence to people with physical disabilities around the world. The event is part of the charity’s wider One Special Day fundraising programme.

Entry costs £25 for the full 18-mile route and £15 for the shorter eight-mile option. That includes a branded t-shirt, breakfast and lunch stops on the route, a start line celebration, game-related activations along the way, a finisher medal and goodie bag, and a finish line celebration. Walkers who raise £200 or more in sponsorship will also receive an exclusive SpecialEffect premium enamel pin badge.

The event is also being labelled as a networking and team-building opportunity for the gaming industry. The release states “an unmissable all-day networking, team-building and fundraising opportunity.” If you’re in the gaming and esports space, it might be worth taking a look at the event.

It’s not a bad week for London related esports news. Roehampton University announced its esports scholarship is raised to £2,000 a year from £1,500. It comes alongside it creating a dedicated Women in Esports scholarship too.

The event also premiers alongside UK’s biggest charity day.Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning also takes place on 25th September, encouraging those to make, bake and donate as part of the morning’s brew and cake yearly effort.
