Three huge UK Smash Bros Ultimate events announced for Summer 2023 in Portsmouth, Birmingham and Manchester, with Regen being the first European Major event to ban Steve

Three of the biggest Smash Ultimate tournaments for the UK this summer have been announced, with events taking place in Portsmouth, Birmingham and Manchester.

There are also a number of smaller events happening all over the UK as well, Wade ‘AggresiveDuck’ White reports.

Reunion 2

Team Nexus and Team WaveSmash team up once again as they return to Fratton Park, the home of Portsmouth FC, for the South East’s biggest UK Smash Bros Ultimate event on June 17th.

It has a max cap of 192, with tournaments available for Singles, Doubles and also an Items bracket.

The event has already garnered interest from mainland Europe, with multiple players from the Netherlands already set to attend, including Space who is currently ranked 7th in Europe and 2nd in Netherlands.

Grand Manchester Conquest

StreetSmash Manchester have announced their biggest event to date; Grand Manchester Conquest on August 5th and 6th.

It has a 256 entrant cap for Singles and 32 team cap for Doubles, with all singles sets being Best of 5, rather than being Best of 3. The venue for the event will also be open until 2am each day.

The event page is expected to go live on May 8th with the announcement of signups opening TBA.

Regen 2023 – August 18th – 20th

Announced at Invasion April 2023 (won by UK player Bloom4Eva), Regen 2023 aims to be the biggest event of the year with a Singles cap of 640 and estimated prize pool of £7,500, alongside side events for Doubles (128 cap), Squad Strike (256 cap) and other side events to be announced.

It’s set to take place from August 18th to 20th at The Studio, 7 Cannon St, Birmingham, B2 5EP.

This is also the first European Major event to ban Steve, a DLC character added from Minecraft in October 2020 that is currently ranked as the best character in the game, with multiple discussions about a ban considered worldwide since August 2022 where Steve won the biggest Smash Ultimate event of the year – Super Smash Con.

Team Regen have also teased some international attendees, with an International Crew battle announced with more details to come. The team are also hosting an in-venue after party, with karaoke and social games area including rock band and other arcade games.

Sign ups for the event go live on Friday 28th April on Start.gg with the event taking place From August 18th to 20th, the same weekend as VSFighting XI, making it one of the biggest fighting game weekends the UK has ever seen.
