League of Legends star Martin ‘Rekkles’ Larsson has officially returned to Fnatic, as announced in their 2023 LEC roster video.
The London-headquartered esports organisation – with their LEC team based in Fnatic’s Berlin performance facility – posted a four-minute announcement video on Twitter featuring Rekkles exploring the facility and talking to other teammates.
The video also featured guest appearances from UK talent Vedius (LEC caster) and Boaster (Fnatic Valorant player).
And speaking of UK talent, Fnatic will play in a showmatch versus Koi this Friday (December 16th 2022) at Gamergy, Madrid, featuring UK broadcast talent Medic and Caedrel. This showmatch will take place from 7.30pm CET on Caedrel‘s Twitch channel.
Rekkles previously played for Fnatic between 2013 and 2014, and again from 2015 to 2020 before Rekkles moved to G2, a move that didn’t turn out well for him. He was unable to join another LEC team due to G2’s buyout for him being too high, and it was only lowered after LEC teams had signed their ADCs, leading him to French EMEA Regional League side Karmine Corp.
On finally being back in the LEC with Fnatic again, Rekkles said: “It’s good to be back. There’s no place like home.”
Rekkles joins the full Fnatic League of Legends roster for 2023:
- Top: Wunder (Denmark)
- Jungle: Razork (Spain)
- Mid: Humanoid (Czech Republic)
- ADC: Rekkles (Sweden)
- Support: Rhuckz (Portugal)
- Head coach: Crusher (Portugal)
- Strategic coach: Shaves (UK)
- Assistant coach: Hiiva (Finland)
Rhuckz and Crusher have been promoted from the Fnatic TQ academy squad, who have been playing in the Spanish Superliga.
The news also comes after YamatoCannon, Hylissang and Beansu recently left Fnatic as League of Legends head coach, support player and sub support respectively.
Fnatic’s previous ADC player, Upset, also said last month: “Sadly the circumstances around this off season did not allow me to go to one of my desired places to compete. I will be grinding a lot of solo queue here and in Korea in the new season and am probably gonna stream quite a bit of it. I am confident in my return in great form.”
Fnatic commented in their LEC 2023 roster announcement post: “Our new bot laner needs no introduction. After two years apart, we’re proud to welcome Martin ‘Rekkles’ Larsson back to where it all started.
“An absolute powerhouse on the bot-lane, he enters the team with a renewed drive and hunger for the game; his personal goals align with what we are looking to achieve in 2023 and we’re confident on what comes next.”
