Liverpool FC job ad suggests a move into esports

It appears that Premier League side Liverpool Football Club are trying to make moves in esports, according to a new job ad found on LinkedIn.
The club mentioned esports within an ad for the Head of Youth Marketing position (found here and here).
Part of the job description includes ‘supporting the development of the club’s marketing strategy to support a gamification/Esports programme’.
This suggests Liverpool are taking a slow move into esports – to explore the space over a period of time before coming up with some kind of strategy. They clearly don’t want to walk alone into the world of esports.
Liverpool FC also ask for applicants to have ‘understanding and experience of eSports and gaming worlds as an integral part of youth culture’. (first line of duty for applicants: teach them the correct spelling of esports!)
The marketing job specification also heavily outlines the necessity of understanding the youth market, entertainment and gaming industries as well as ‘experience of co-ordinating integrated campaigns to differing customer segments’.
For more details on the role, it can be found on the hiring company’s website.
Liverpool are also hiring for a marketing executive, a partnership manager and more.
Over the last couple of years, many sports teams have been getting involved with esports, including Liverpool FC’s Premier League rivals West Ham and Manchester City signing their own FIFA players.
Others, like PSG and Schalke, have signed League of Legends teams.
Premier League club owners have also been attracted to esports. Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke recently purchased a Los Angeles Overwatch League spot, and QPR owner Tony Fernandes has his own esports team.
