BFBS Pro League gets its first big playoff for Rocket League, kicking off tonight

The British Military Esports Invitational Rocket League tournament has reached its playoff stage. With July 15th here, teams will start battling it out between 19:30 and 22:30 to determine the first winner of the Main Stage in its Summer of Competition.

Seven teams from across the British Armed Forces remain in the tournament, with one Welsh civilian guest side also battling it out for the trophy.

The bracket features teams from the British Army Esports (BAES) and Royal Air Force (RAF) esports programmes. BAES Buzzards and BAES Falcons face off in the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals, alongside RAF Stormshadows and S.E.A. Dragons in the second upper bracket match.

S.E.A. Dragons are the civvy team, hailing from the Brecon Beacons area of South Wales. The team powered through the Swiss Stage after qualifying, finishing third in the bracket with a 3-1 record.

On the lower bracket side, RAF Mustangs face BAES Kestrels in Lower Bracket Round 1, while RAF Typhoons take on RAF Nighthawks in the other opening round match. From there the bracket progresses through Lower Bracket Quarterfinals, Semifinals and a Grand Final.

The tournament is part of a broader push from British military esports programmes in recent years. BAES and RAF Esports have both been active across a range of titles.

British Army Esports most recently made headlines after winning the C.O.D.E. Bowl VII at San Diego Race Weekend last month, taking home the trophy against US and Canadian military sides. The RAF esports programme has similarly been expanding its competitive footprint across multiple titles.

Full bracket and broadcast details are available via the tournament’s Liquipedia page. It’s one way to miss the Argentina versus England World Cup semi-final. But who cares if you’re swapping Harry Kane for flying cars?

Teams will be looking to rack up those points, with a final to take place later in the year with a small prizepool on the line. However, it lets teams visit London for a showdown at the Royal Air Force Museum, London. Another nice little tie-in to the British Military’s effort, with everyone in a somewhat fitting venue to make military esports history.
