Bandai Namco UK has announced a collaboration with PlayStation Tournaments to host the first official Tekken 8 tournament run by the two organisations together.
It will take place this month (November 2024), feature cash prizes and will be exclusively on PS5.
In celebration of Tekken’s 30th anniversary, PlayStation is providing the entire £6,000 prize pool, marking a special milestone for the series since its debut in Japan in 1994.
Entrants must be 16+, based in the UK, own a copy of Tekken 8 and have a PS Online subscription to participate.
A prize pool of £6,000 is available to the highest performers, with the money to be distributed as follows:
- 1st Place – £1,500
- 2nd Place – £900
- 3rd Place – £700
- 4th Place – £700
- 5th Place – £350
- 6th Place – £350
- 7th Place – £350
- 8th Place – £350
- 9th Place – £100
- 10th Place – £100
- 11th Place – £100
- 12th Place – £100
- 13th Place – £100
- 14th Place – £100
- 15th Place – £100
- 16th Place – £100
All entrants will also receive an exclusive Tekken 30th Anniversary PlayStation avatar as a reward for signing up.
Open qualifiers will run from November 4th to 24th 2024 between 6.30pm and 9.30pm GMT. There will be one round one the hour, every hour, i.e. four each day. The closed finals will on November 30th 2024.
Players will fight to reach the top of the leaderboard. Open Qualifiers will be Single Elimination with best-of-one matches, while the Closed Finals will be Single Elimination with best-of-three matches.
PlayStation Tournaments brings competitive gaming to PS5 in a series of organised contests that players can join direct from their console. It’s for players of all skill levels to compete online.
Tekken 8 is also available on Xbox Series X|S and PC and launched at the start of this year.
How to sign up to the PlayStation Tekken 8 tournament
Players can sign up by navigating to the game hub for Tekken 8 and scrolling down to the upcoming tournaments carousel, and selecting the ‘Tekken 8 30th Anniversary Tournament’ to register. They can also find tournament cards in the control centre, or directly in-game.
Players will receive a notification when the first match is ready to play.
Winning your bracket will get players a slot in the finals on November 30th, where they can compete for the prize money.
Alternatively, players can use the PlayStation Tournaments button in the Tekken 8 main menu to also access the tournament times.
Other recent Tekken 8 tournaments in the UK include the MCM x EGX 2024 Tekken tournament (won by Gosain) and Red Bull Golden Letters 2024 (won by Ulsan).
