UK and Pakistani fighting games player Hussain ‘Gosain’ Shah won the Tekken 8 tournament at MCM x EGX 2024 on the weekend.
He defeated French player Jodd 3-2 and 3-1 in the EGX Arena grand final at Excel London on the weekend, to take home the €3,000 first-place prize.
It was revenge for Gosain, who had previously been knocked into the losers final after a 3-2 loss to Jodd in the upper final. In the losers final, Gosain beat third-place UK player Kaneandtrench 3-2 to progress.
Other players in the top eight included NRC (Pakistan), K-Wiss (UK), K-TOP (Greece), Sensei Salam (UK) and Niam Raeb (UK), with other notable entrants also including the likes of Roo Kang, KingJae and Ayorichie from the UK.
Gosain said after the win: “Alhamdulillah, won a big major in the UK which has given me a huge head-start in the EU Cup leaderboard.
“I had a gameplan in mind in each game and it worked out well. I was able to calm my nerves and stay composed. Just wanted to say GGs and much love to everyone supporting.”
Long Nguyen, community and events manager at Bandai Namco UK (pictured with Gosain, top), added: “Your EGX Arena 2024 Champion – Gosain – a truly special performance from a player with a lot of heart.
“Thank you everyone involved in making this a memorable event, I can’t appreciate the UK community enough.”
