South Korean mid-laner LNG Scout has spoken about the importance of the early game following his team’s quarter finals loss to Weibo Gaming at Worlds 2024.

As the 2024 League of Legends World Championship unfolded, LNG Scout and his team performed strongly in the early stages of the tournament, achieving victories against formidable teams from major regions such as DK, BLG, and TL. After overcoming challenges that prevented them from attending Worlds, Scout’s determination and strong will fueled LNG’s journey with confidence and high hopes.

On October 18th, LNG faced fellow Chinese LPL team WBG in the knockout stage in Paris in a do-or-die elimination match. Both teams, hailing from the LPL, started and ended the series in true LPL style, with intense team fights throughout. After losing a close battle in the first game, LNG fought back in the second game with solid mid- to late-game team fights.

However, LNG were unable to secure the match against WBG due to disadvantages in the early game. Unfortunately for them, they lost to WBG 3-1 and were eliminated from the tournament. We had the opportunity to speak with LNG Scout after the game about his thoughts on this year’s Worlds run in Europe.

LNG Scout on facing WBG in Worlds 2024 Paris quarter final and why LNG lost

“I think in the first game, since we hadn’t played for a while, our game condition and our hands weren’t very hot,” LNG Scout said. “Personally, I believe that whenever we face LPL teams, the early game is very important.

“We didn’t perform well in the early game in all five games of this series. I think we lost today’s series because we fell behind too quickly in the early game. Everything comes down to early game tempo. I think this was a crucial factor in our loss today.

“In the second game, we didn’t have an advantage in the early game, but we fought back to build our advantage in the mid-game with our team fights.

“Personally, regarding our opponent and our lane swaps—whether we should or shouldn’t push mid—I don’t think we made good decisions there. This led to unexpected pressure in the game. But overall, I think our team performed well in mid-game macro plays and mid- to late-game team fights.

“Honestly, I think our potential is very high this year compared to others. We had a lot of hope and confidence coming in. Losing was quite regretful…”

What about the aggressive playstyle of the LPL fitting into this the Worlds 2024 meta?

“In this meta, due to void grubs, early game team fights have become very important,” LNG Scout said. “This is good news for the LPL. I think the meta works well for both LCK and LPL.”

How has LNG Scout found playing in Europe, and what about the food and culture here?

“In Paris and Berlin, I feel there aren’t any particularly surprising foods; I think the food tends to be a little salty. Most of the time, we eat Korean or Chinese food,” he said. “[The views and architecture] are all pretty nice too.”

“It’s regretful that we didn’t showcase our performance and strength. We will strive to perform better for the EU fans next time.”

What does LNG Scout think of the Worlds 2024 finals being in London?

“When I heard that this year’s Worlds Finals are in London, I was excited because I haven’t been there before and I’m curious about it,” he said. “I just want to go because I haven’t had the chance.

And finally a message to the EU fans: “It’s regretful that we didn’t showcase our performance and strength. We will strive to perform better for the EU fans next time. Thank you.”

Following Weibo’s victory over LNG, they have advanced to the quarter finals.

Today’s matchup is BLG vs HLE, and stay tuned on Esports News UK for an interview with BLG Bin tomorrow.
