Fans of classic arena FPS Quake will be in their element over the next few days as QuakeCon 2023 gets underway in the US.
The annual celebration of all things Quake is taking place at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas, from today (Thursday August 10th) to Sunday August 13th 2023.
There’s a host of UK esports angles, what with talent at the World Championship, orgs and a UK watch party taking place. We’ve posted more details about these below.
UK talent at Quake World Championship 2023
One UK player will be taking part in the Quake World Championship 2023 – Gareth ‘GaRpY’ Marshall of Myztro Gaming.
He’s one of four players from Myztro taking part, with the others including vengeurR (Italy), RAISY (Hungary) and ZenAku (Australia).
The World Championship features 24 players from around the world, all competing for a $150,000 prize pool.
Other UK talent are also featuring at the Quake World Championship at QuakeCon 2023 – casters Ryan ‘Ketchup’ Neal, Dan Sanders and Harry ‘Lethal’ Thomas.
They’re casting on the Quake Twitch channel right now, at the time of writing this article, and is joined by Belgian caster Flee and veteran US esports host djWHEAT.
In-person UK watch party announced for QuakeCon 2023
A physical event is taking place in the UK to celebrate QuakeCon 2023 – specifically, the Quake World Championship finals.
This will take place at London’s New Meta gaming venue on Saturday August 12th 2023 from 12pm midday. It’s been organised by derelict85.
There’s also tournament with prizes up for grabs, with full details found below.
Endpoint produces Quake content after player misses out on World Championship
Unfortunately, Polish player Maciej ‘Av3k’ Krzykowski from UK esports organisation Endpoint, is unable to take part in the World Championship due to travel issues. Av3k posted a video today talking about passport problems.
However, Av3k will be producing content around QuakeCon 2023.
Av3k also interviewed UK player GaRpY here, and Endpoint have been posting a variety of this content on their channels.
Endpoint also recently reached 1,000 subscribers on their Quake YouTube channel.
Last year, UK players and orgs qualified for the $150,000 Quake World Championship 2022 in Bucharest, with German player k1llsen winning.
