A few UK players and organisations will be participating at the Quake World Championship 2022 in Bucharest, Romania, from August 18th to 20th.
These include players from UK organisations Clique Esports, Endpoint and Myztro Gaming.
For Clique, British player Reece ‘RMV’ Vince has qualified, and for Endpoint, Polish player Maciej ‘Av3k’ Krzykowski will be at the tournament.
There’s also another British player, Gareth ‘GaRpY’ Marshall, representing Myztro Gaming (who also have UK Mario 64 speedrunner Biinny on their books). GaRpY is a veteran player, aged 36 years old and has been playing since 2005 according to Liquipedia.
Myztro also have three other players participating at the World Championship: Australian player ZenAku, Hungarian player Raisy and Italian player vengeurR, who is the 2021 world champion.
They join a host of other players from around the world, from organisations including the likes of Team Liquid (rapha), Singularity (cha1n), BIG (k1llsen), Navi (Xron) and more. Some other players are org-less.
The event will take place at the PGL Studios in Bucharest.
Clique Esports spoke about their 20-year-old player RMV’s background and potential in a press release sent to Esports News UK.
“RMV signed with Clique Esports in 2021 after Karl ‘blubs’ Batson discovered him while watching his stream on Twitch,” Clique said. “Blubs, having a background in Quake, identified that RMV was a young talent and would qualify for tournaments like this in the future. Clique Esports helped RMV develop across his time with us, both as a player and as an individual.
“RMV travelled to London with Clique Esports and their partner BeyondNRG, where he won his first LAN competition, playing a community Back 4 Blood competition against Endpoint and their streamers/staff.
“Moving forward, Clique and RMV are hoping and expecting RMV to shine at LAN. RMV being one of the only two UK players in this tournament presents an exciting opportunity for the UK to get behind this young player and show him the support he deserves.”
Endpoint player Av3k told Esports News UK:
Endpoint COO and co-owner Peter Thompson added: “What a season Av3k has had so far, he’s coming in to the World Championships on top form and I am excited to see how far he can go. Ours and Av3k’s goal is always to win the whole thing and we will be supporting him all the way!”
In terms of what happened in the qualifying tournament, RMV started in round two of the competition, starting his run with a two back-to-back wins, scoring 2-1 and 2-0. At this stage, RMV met Serious and lost 0-2, and Serious went on to win the rest of the tournament.
RMV then beat his competition 2-0 for the next three rounds to qualify for the LAN. RMV was then knocked out 1-2 to Prox1mo.
Clique Esports management includes Karl ‘Blubs’ Batson, George Spour (who also works with UK esports jersey and apparel business XCalibur.GG) and Sam ‘Restless’ Rawlings.
Over the course of the LAN, RMV and Clique will be posting a variety of content so fans can support both parties using the following social links: RMV and Clique Esports.
