Today G2 Esports have released their 2023 single, ‘Detonate’, featuring hardcore gamer, metalhead and TikTok sensation, Jeris Johnson.

The song also features Theresa Jarvis from English rock band Yonaka, based out of Brighton, on vocals. G2 said in a press release that the track ‘encapsulates its mission for the new year and bring to life what the company is all about’.

G2 developed the song in house, with Jeris Johnson joining brothers Jacob Bitove and Nicolas Bitove of ROMES, and Alex Sacco (aka SACCO – no, not related to the author of this article) to write ‘Detonate’.

The track was produced by G2, Jacob Alexander, Jeris Johnson, SACCO, Riley ThomasJosh White, with additional production by Rush Garcia and Aleks Von Korff. And it was executive produced by G2 Esports, with Alex Seaver of Mako, Viranda Tantula of Potion Projects, and Noah Gladstone of Hollywood Scoring.

The video for “Detonate” was directed by Thuy HaAnna HryhorievaVera MayskayaCharles Dalton, and the G2 team. Shot at a bowling alley in Berlin, featuring G2 creators and players, and friends of the org like Sjokz and Laure of the LEC, rocking the brand’s 2023 team jersey (soon to be donned at the start of LEC League of Legends new competitive season later this month).

The track was developed in-house by G2 and will serve as the organisation’s 2023 anthem. G2 said in a press release it’s ‘a further demonstration of how G2 Esports plan to expand within music, reinforcing the top tier entertainment it delivers to its 45m fans worldwide’.

“A sonic invocation of the G2 way, ‘Detonate’ represents the company’s ambitions for the 2023 competitive season, blowing up preconceived notions of the brand while celebrating the diversity and unity of the faces behind G2,” the press release read.

“Expansion into other areas, such as music is a fluid but long-lasting process. What matters to G2 is to remain the very best in their core business, Esports, and to keep captivating the scene with exciting, unexpected bangers, no matter the medium.”

This time last year, G2 went Pentakill with their first metal track titled ‘Our Way’ featuring Tina Guo, Noora Louhimo, former G2 CEO Ocelote and more, before amassing 10m+ streams across all platforms.

Ocelote later left G2 following a video of himself partying with Andrew Tate.

What Jeris Johnson, Theresa Jarvis and G2’s MD said about the song ‘Detonate’

Jeris Johnson said: “I’ve been wanting to get my music involved in the gaming space for a while now, so when G2 first approached me about ‘Detonate’ it was an absolute no-brainer.

“I’ve been a gamer my entire life and still have dreams of making the soundtrack to a game at some point in the future. Rock music and gaming used to be one in the same, so I saw this as an opportunity to bring rock back into gaming in a meaningful way.”

“It’s an honour to be part of the new G2 anthem ‘Detonate’,” added Theresa Jarvis.

“I love how gaming provides an outlet for people to let go and lose themselves in something just like music does. So being a part of this is important to me ❤️.”

Alban Dechelotte, MD of G2 Esports, commented: This track is our 2023 esports anthem. It is to celebrate all the new upcoming stories being developed by all the awesome people that we have behind G2: the fans, players, creators, and staff.

“Jeris Johnson and Yonaka are rockstars in their own right and are the perfect artist’s to kick off the New Year for G2.”
