UK esports organisations pay tribute to The Queen

UK esports organisations, personalities and others have paid tribute to Her Majesty The Queen who died yesterday aged 96 years old.

Queen Elizabeth II served as the Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth states for 70 years, the longest of any British monarch and female head of state.

Many accounts changed the colour of their social media profile images to black and white in order to mourn the Queen’s death and show their respect.

Tributes poured in on Twitter, with British Esports saying they are deeply saddened to hear of the Queen’s passing:

Other UK-based esports bodies including Esports Scotland, Esports England and Esports Northern Ireland also shared their tributes.

Esports Scotland and Esports Northern Ireland both said: “On behalf of everyone at Esports Scotland/Esports Northern Ireland we are saddened by the loss of Queen Elizabeth we pass on our condolences to her family.”

Dr Jo Twist OBE, CEO of UK video game industry trade body Ukie, commented: “The UK video games industry is saddened by the passing of Her Majesty the Queen. Our thoughts are with her family and we join the rest of the country in mourning.”

Other personalities in UK esports such as FIFA football esports commentator Brandon Smith, Northern Ireland eFootball Commonwealth winner Emzii and streamer Daz Black also made comments on Twitter and other social media platforms:

Lastly, many esports team organisations based in the UK paid tribute to The Queen with a variety of messages, while some changed to a black profile image and others said they would go silent for a few days.

Clique, Eko, Veloce, Excel, Guild, Semper Fortis (aka SMPR Esports), MNM Gaming, Man City Esports, LDN UTD, London Royal Ravens, Endpoint, Wolves, Williams Resolve, Futwiz, Lionscreed, Vulpine Esports, X7 Esports and others paid their respects. RAF Esports also updated their profile images on socials.

Some offered ‘rest in peace’ messages, while others paid longer tributes.

Isle of Man organisation X7 Esports said on their main Twitter account: “We are proudly home to both current and previously serving members of the British Army – all of whom swore an oath of allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

‘We are deeply saddened to hear about Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s passing and will silence our account over the next few days out of respect.’

X7 Esports

Vupline Esports added: “The UK now is in a mourning period and as we are a UK org, all official social media from us will be limited to important announcements only for the next 12 days as a sign of respect.”

Excel Esports added: “An inspirational leader, her loss will be felt across our United Kingdom and the world; may she rest in peace. Our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time.”

Fnatic commented: “Rest In Peace, Your Majesty. We are sending our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family.”

LDN UTD said: “Very sad. End of an era. The Queen dedicated her life to the UK and public service. #RIPQueenElizabeth.”
