How much does LoL RP cost in the UK as 2022 prices rise?

Riot Games has announced an increase in the price of RP (aka Riot Points), the in-game currency in League of Legends (LoL), so how much will LoL RP cost in the UK now?

Players can spend real money for RP, which allows them to purchase in-game goodies such as skins, emotes, champions, bundles, icons, crafting materials and more.

Prices will rise in the UK by 10.9% on average when the changes go through starting August 19th 2022, over 1% more than the average price change across Europe (9.8%). This means that players will be getting less RP for their money going forwards.

A new £100 option (£99.99 to be precise) has also been added, granting players 15,000 RP in one go, while the £15 option has been removed.

TFT (Teamfight Tactics) Coin prices will also be affected.

Riot typically announces price adjustments annually, with RP prices in the UK raised in 2017 in particular following Brexit.

In terms of RP price changes in other regions, you can see EU RP changes in Euros on the LoL website here, as well as North American and Canadian 2022 RP price changes here.

Riot said it doesn’t have plans to adjust RP prices in Russia.

Other price changes per region can be seen here:

The company also said that Tencent regions (China) “will account for these factors in other ways due to price structure differences”. Tencent is of course Riot’s parent company.

The Garena regions (Southeast Asia) remains unaffected – prices will not change there.

Why Riot has increased RP prices in 2022

Riot said: “[The changes have been made] to account for worldwide inflation, currency fluctuations, maintaining fair prices between and within regions, consistency across our products and other associated cost increases.

“While our annual price reviews often lead to changes in only a handful of regions, this year’s analysis identified economic shifts on a global scale, hence the worldwide impact.”

Riot added it’s making other changes, beyond price adjustments.

“First, we’re correcting cases where some regions didn’t have a single-transaction way to get 1,350 RP champion skins or 1,380 RP/TFTC arena skins,” Riot said. “Second, we’re switching most real-world currency prices to the standard ‘£X.99’ model seen across mobile markets for consistency across our games.”

Bonus RP offered before the 2022 price increase

To soften the blow of the RP price increase to LoL players, Riot is offering double bonus RP and TFT coins on all purchases of those currencies to every region, from July 14th to July 31st 2022 Pacific Time.

After July, RP bundles will go back to normal (until August 19th, when the RP price changes go through).

Riot also offers bonus RP to Amazon Prime users. You can see the Prime Gaming July 2022 games rewards including League of Legends RP here.

LoL players react to 2022 RP price rise

Players largely reacted negatively to the announcement.

On the League of Legends subreddit’s 2022 RP & TFT Coin Price Changes post, players said:

  • “I really hate the .99 prices… fucking marketing tricks”
  • “With the rising costs of fuel it only makes sense raising RP prices, as shipping RP round Europe will be much more costly now.”
  • “20% more expensive in Poland, might as well never buy RP again.”
  • “Sometimes decisions like these have a greater impact on game health and its longevity than gameplay changes.”
  • “Getting rid of the £15 option and adding a £99 option, yeah nice one Riot.”

Players also responded to the RP price hike in this Twitter thread in particular.
