Women’s FIFA tournament series, the ShEsports Cup, has announced the fourth event in its series will take place on International Women’s Day tomorrow (March 8th 2022).

The ShEsports Cup International Women’s Day Invitational will be presented by PlayStation Tournaments and take place from 6pm at the Gfinity Arena in London’s Fulham Broadway.

ShEsports Cup co-founder Rachel Stringer will be joined by professional gamers from across the globe, including FUTHeda, Lisa Manley and Sankhs. Ten players will battle it out for a share of the overall prize pool.

The ShEsports Cup launched in 2020 as an all-female series of gaming events that aims to inspire women to follow their dreams and bridge the equality gap. It is streamed on EA Sports official FIFA Twitch channel, and is produced by London-based tournament operator Gfinity.

The news comes after Team Pacheco won the ShEsports Cup Christmas Special at the end of last year.

“Having helped the ShEsports Cup reach over 1.3m people last year, we’re really excited to be working alongside Rachel and the team again this year. We look forward to shining a spotlight on some of the best women in this space.”

Sam Turkbas, EA Sports FIFA

Rachel Stringer commented: “We’re incredibly excited to be able to bring so many inspiring women together for yet another ShEsports Cup tournament. As the first all-professional iteration of the ShEsports Cup, we’re really excited to welcome such a broad range of talent and look forward to seeing who comes out on top!”

Sam Turkbas, EA Sports FIFA competitive gaming commissioner, said: “Having helped the ShEsports Cup reach over 1.3m people last year, we’re really excited to be working alongside Rachel and the team at Blueprint Sports & Entertainment again this year. We believe esports realises its potential when it is inclusive and accessible to as many people as possible and we look forward to shining a spotlight on some of the best women in this space.”

George Woffenden, from joint founders of the tournament, Blueprint Sports & Entertainment, commented: “Following last year’s successes with the ShEsports Cup, it’s exciting for us to continue to work alongside Rachel and EA Sports to redress that balance in esports and create a platform where talented women in sport can compete and inspire female gamers across the world, in what will be an exciting year for female sport.”

The International Women’s Day Invitational is the first in a series of events set to take place in 2022.
