Nathan Edmonds joins Hitmarker, opens up to Esports News UK about why he left Excel

Nathan Edmonds

Former Excel Esports social media manager Nathan Edmonds has joined UK-based gaming jobs platform Hitmarker as head of community and marketing.

He joins after nearly two years heading up social media at UK esports organisation Excel, following previous stints at Esports Insider and Gfinity.

In his new role, Nathan will focus on refreshing Hitmarker’s social media strategy, building community initiatives, growing the company’s marketing footprint and sourcing new commercial partners.

What made Nathan want to work for Hitmarker and what are his initial plans with them?

He told Esports News UK: “The most attractive thing to me was the ability to bring change to the entire industry. No other opportunity on the table had that. I’ve offered help and advice now for years so now I get to do this on a much larger scale for an industry I truly care about.

“Hitmarker has already and will continue to make waves in our industry all around the world as we ensure that we move towards a better future in employment. There are loads of plans right now circling around in my brain but you’ll have to wait and see what 2022 brings!”

“Interacting with the Excel community was by far the best part of my [previous] job and I truly enjoyed many of the projects I helped launch across my 21-month stay at the company. But look, working for an esports organisation is hard work (act surprised) and being the sole social media manager there for nearly 17 months really took a toll on my mental health.”

When asked if he’ll miss working for a team organisation like Excel, Nathan added: “Yes and no. Interacting with the Excel community was by far the best part of my job and I truly enjoyed many of the projects I helped launch across my 21-month stay at the company.

“But look, working for an esports organisation is hard work (act surprised) and being the sole social media manager there for nearly 17 months really took a toll on my mental health. It drained me completely of any creative ability and it was really hard some days to get work done.

“I’m looking forward to working on a new project and still experience the hectic moments that this industry brings whilst also ensuring that my mental health is well cared for at the same time.”

Excel Esports’ current social media staff are Fosty, who recently posted a Twitlonger on his career so far, and Josh McClements.

Nathan joins Hitmarker as Thomas Jeffery leaves the company. He held the role of community and social manager.

Hitmarker MD Rich Huggan commented: “Community is at the heart of Hitmarker’s strategy for 2022 and we are all delighted to have Nathan here with us at the start of a massive year for the company.

“He’s going to be working closely with Laurie Munslow, our head of creative, to take our community and social content to the next level. Watch this space.”

Nathan added: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be starting 2022 with Hitmarker and cannot wait to get properly stuck into the company. One of the things that attracted me most to this opportunity is that I get to drive real change and improvement to the entire gaming and esports ecosystem. I’ve always enjoyed helping people in my own time, and this step allows me to do so on a bigger scale with a team of like-minded people.

“I’m full of ideas that I think will help us continue moving in the right direction as we work to make the gaming industry’s employment processes more open, transparent, and fair for everyone.”
