Perfect World will bring a Counter-Strike 2 Major back to Shanghai in late 2027, according to Dust2.us. The event is scheduled to run from 22 November to 12 December and carries a $1.25 million prize pool.
The announcement follows Perfect World’s earlier confirmation that China would host the year’s second Major, with HLTV separately confirming Shanghai as the chosen host city. No venue details have been released yet, though Dust2.us notes that the 2024 Shanghai Major drew packed crowds well beyond the playoff stage, including much of the group stage as well.
The 2027 Shanghai Major is expected to follow the same structure used since 2025: 32 teams split across three Swiss stages, narrowing down to an eight-team playoff bracket.
HLTV had earlier reported that 2027’s first Major would be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, meaning the calendar for both of next year’s Majors is now settled.
Shanghai’s return marks the third time Asia has hosted a CS2 Major, following the original Shanghai event in 2024 and the upcoming PGL Singapore 2026. Before Counter-Strike 2’s release, no Major in the game’s history had ever been staged outside Europe or the United States, making Perfect World’s continued investment in Asian venues a notable shift in the circuit’s geography.
