There is a strong possibility that the UK could get its own version of the new ‘PokéPark’ Pokémon theme park.
PokéPark Kanto is a walkthrough attraction opening in Japan next week with over 600 life-size Pokémon models scattered through a town and forest.
While focused on the original 151 Pokémon, recently released images of PokéPark Kanto show that there’s a variety of Pokémon to find.
The Pokémon Company holds a ‘PokéPark Galar’ trademark in the UK, suggesting a similar version could open closer to home.
The Pokémon Company applied for the trademark in December 2023, and officially registered it in March 2024.
PokéPark Galar is trademarked under Class 41, which covers everything entertainment, including “amusement park services.”
Galar, the region from Pokémon Sword and Shield, was heavily based on the UK.
The Sword and Shield video games started in the British countryside and turned gyms into football stadiums.
As well as the Galar trademark, the Pokémon Company also holds ‘PokéPark Kalos’ and ‘PokéPark Paldea’ in Europe.
Kalos is the France-based region from Pokémon X and Y with its own Paris-esque Lumiose City, which is the setting for Legends Z-A.
Meanwhile, Paldea is the region from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, which is based on the Iberian Peninsula, but primarily Spain with some Portuguese influence.
This suggests that the Pokémon Company is considering building theme parks in France and Spain as well as the UK.
However, as far as we know, there are no concrete plans for any of these parks yet.
But should PokéPark Kanto be successful, and it probably will be, we could see other versions open all around the world.
Immersive Pokémon ride could come to upcoming UK Universal Studios theme park
Work is underway to open a Universal Studios theme park in Bedford, England with an opening date targeted for 2031.
Universal recently announced that Universal Studios Japan is getting a new Pokémon ride which is an “immersive experience.”
Said to stimulate all five senses, this experience is claimed to bring the Pokémon world to life “in a more realistic and interactive way than ever before.”
This immersive ride will be brought to other international Universal locations, making the new UK venue a potential option.
The franchise is popular in the UK; tickets for the Pokémon and Natural History Museum London pop-up sold out immediately.
The BBC reported that the upcoming Bedford theme park will also feature James Bond, Paddington, and Lord of the Rings.
