First look at PokéPark Kanto with life-size Pokémon in Japan

The first-ever full-scale Pokémon theme park, PokéPark Kanto, opens next week and Japanese media have given us a preview.

The walk-through attraction will allow visitors to walk around an area brimming with life-size Pokémon models.

The first images from the park have been released, showing a re-created Pokémon town and a forest full of Pokémon.

Poképark Kanto officially opens to the public on Thursday, February 5th, on the outskirts of Tokyo.

As the name of the park suggests, most of the Pokémon present are from Kanto – the first generation of games.

However, plenty of other, more modern Pokémon also seem to be present, with Zorua, Greninja, Bidoof, and Goomy all pictured.

The park requires a fitness test to get in, with guests needing to climb 110 steps unassisted to enter.

Wheelchair users, pregnant women, and children under five are not able to enter.

The forest nature trail stretches across 500 metres with a lot of steep hills and climbs required to find all the photo opportunities.

The forest supposedly contains over 600 Pokémon to find in total, with many of them voiced with sound effects to improve the immersion.

Meanwhile, the town has life Pokémon Centres and Poké Marts as well as rides, including a carousel.

At the Pokémon Centre, visitors can help Nurse Joy heal a tray of Pokéballs containing Ash’s Pokémon League-winning team.

Guests can also enter a Pokémon Lab belonging to Professor Sycamore from Kalos.

There are also live shows and entertainment, including a Pikachu and Eevee parade in the town square.

PokéPark exclusive Pokémon merchandise

Pokémon merch is always popular, just look at the popularity of the expensive Pokémon LEGO sets announced earlier this year.

As expected, there will also be plenty of merchandise, including exclusive items, at PokéPark Kanto too.

There will be hats, headbands, and seemingly plush toys of all 151 original Kanto Pokémon.

There are also collectable pins for all 151 Kanto Pokémon, which come inside Pokéballs that can be purchased and traded at multiple stands.

Another unique stand will also sell empty Pokémon card frames, which guests can use to make their own cards using photos taken at the park.

And there will be various food stands with a variety of food like Pikachu’s Onigiri Shop with ¥800 (£3.79) and Turtwig’s Wing Rest Kitchen with ¥1,300 (£6) baguettes.

How to get tickets for PokéPark Kanto

PokéPark Kanto is located in Inagi City inside the Yomiuriland theme park on the outskirts of Tokyo, Japan.

Tickets are purchasable on the PokéPark website up to two months ahead, but February and March are already sold out.

Additionally, the ticket lottery for April opened on January 1st and is already closed.

Should you be fortunate enough to succeed in the ticket lottery, there are three types of tickets available.

The ¥16,500 (£78.19) Ace Trainer’s Pass gives entry to the Pokémon Forest and Sedge Town and extra bonuses.

It gives visitors access to meet-and-greets, a reserved seat for the ‘Sedge Gym Show’ and priority lines for attractions and exclusive merch.

Meanwhile, the ¥9,400 (£44.50) Trainer’s Pass grants a single entry to the Pokémon Forest within a specified time slot with no re-entry allowed) and unlimited entry to Sedge Town.

In the Summer, a third ticket type will be released with access to Sedge Town only for those who can’t walk the forest or are only interested in shopping/food.

All ticket types will have discounts for children (3 years and older), seniors (65 years and older), and people with disabilities.

Meanwhile, the Pokémon Natural History Museum pop-up in London is now open.
