The Esports Awards 2024 has unveiled the first wave of finalists for this year’s ceremony, with UK talent James Banks and Marc ‘Caedrel’ Lamont listed.

They are both up for the Esports Personality of the Year award, and Caedrel is also a finalist in the Streamer of the Year category.

This year, for the first time, the Esports Awards has also split its awarding ceremony into two separate events. The first ceremony will take place on August 24th as part of the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and the second ceremony will take place in London later this year.

The second ceremony, in London, will feature a heavier focus on the pro categories, including Esports Player of the Year and Esports Team of the Year.

This marks a return to London for the Esports Awards, which was held in the UK capital for the ceremony’s first three years in 2016, 2017 and 2018, before it moved to Arlington for 2019 then later Vegas in recent years. Now the main ceremony for 2024 is in Saudi Arabia, with a second one in London.

Voting is now open for 15 categories, including Esports Game of the Year, Esports Breakthrough Player of the Year and more.

The main Esports Awards 2024 event, which recently announced its partnership with the Esports World Cup, will conclude the tournament circuit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on August 24th. This announcement drew criticism from the community for Saudi’s human rights record, with some awards panellists stepping down.

“For the first time this year we are hosting not one, but two ceremonies. Stay tuned for more details about the London ceremony later this year, where we’ll be shining an even brighter light on the Pro categories.”

The finalists were announced live across the Esports Awards broadcast platforms, presented by South African former LEC caster Trevor ‘Quickshot’ Henry alongside UK esports host and interviewer Jasmine ‘Veracity’ Kanuga. Quickshot was recently named host of 19 Esports World Cup games in a separate announcement.

This year’s Esports Awards will also see the return of the Lifetime Achievement Award award, which celebrates individuals who have dedicated their professional lives to improving the industry. The Esports Awards Village and the Red Carpet event will be back as well.

“Year on year, I am amazed at the vast and incredible talent present in the esports industry. It’s an absolute honour to gather everyone across all aspects of the industry to acknowledge and celebrate excellence in esports and foster growth for the industry,” said Michael Ashford, CEO of the Esports Awards

“With the Esports Awards kicking off in Riyadh earlier this year, amidst a calendar brimming with incredible events, we wanted to make sure we give every achievement the spotlight it deserves. This is why for the first time this year we are hosting not one, but two ceremonies.

“Stay tuned for more details about the London ceremony later this year, where we’ll be shining an even brighter light on the Pro categories.”
