‘Uncertainty’ in women’s Rocket League as Endpoint become latest org to release roster

UK esports organisation Endpoint recently released their women’s Rocket League roster, citing ‘uncertainty’ in the space.

Their players Slumpii, takara and Alanis are now free agents, as is substitute gcindisguise (aka geecee) and coach BeastBound.

They’re the latest org to step back from women’s Rocket League following issues with the Women’s Car Ball (WCB) tournaments. This includes late payments, a lack of payments and a lack of activity from the organisers (the @WomensCarBall Twitter hasn’t posted since November 2nd 2023).

Last summer, fellow UK esports organisation Resolve released their women’s Rocket League roster after the player contracts came to an end.

Luminosity and Misfits also released their rosters in October 2023.

“An amazing group of women who have represented us for the last 21 months. Sad to see them go but who knows what will happen in the future? I’m very proud for what we achieved together.”

There are a few teams still together, however, including UK org Guild Esports.

A Guild spokesperson told Esports News UK: “The team is still contracted with Guild (subject to the terms of the new contract extension). Guild are committed to moving forward still with the team – even in the absence of competitions – as they are part of Guild’s plans moving forward in 2024.”

Guild have previously stressed their committment to women in esports, and Guild launched their own Boost Championship women’s Rocket League tournament last August.

Endpoint first announced their CeX UV women’s Rocket League team back in May 2022.

The news comes as the main 2024 RLCS continues in Rocket League esports, with teams taking part in the open qualifiers. Endpoint finished 5th-8th to collect six RLCS points, while Gridserve Resolve collected four points in 12th-14th in open qualifier one.

Endpoint on releasing their women’s Rocket League roster

Endpoint said in a statement: “Endpoint CeX and our UV team have agreed mutually to part ways. Their contracts expired and were not renewed, making to three of them, plus coach BeastBound, free agents.

“We are thankful to them for everything they achieved with us. Highlights include attending DreamHack Dallas Rocket Clash last year, finishing as runners-up in the inaugural Boost Championship from Guild, and establishing ourselves as a top four team in the world at the WCB Championships last summer. Their sense of humour and drive will be missed and we will always consider them part of the Endpoint family.

“It’s no secret that there is a lot of uncertainty around the women’s Rocket League scene at the moment. We would love to get involved again in the future, and want to give a massive thank you to everyone that has supported us, and the girls, over the last 21 months. We wish them the best of luck in everything they do in the future.”

Released player Slumpii thanked teammates in this Twitter thread, and said: “I wanna thank Endpoint for the opportunity. It was an amazing experience over the course of almost two years, and I couldn’t have wished for a better organisation to be on, and team to be with. Genuinely Endpoint are some of the best people in the business and they deserve all the success. They were so supportive of all of us the entire time, it truly felt like a family.

“As for the team, we have all decided to part ways as we want to do different things right now. I wish them nothing but the best going forward, it was a good run! I feel like we represented the women’s RL scene as best we could and I will do my best to continue that where I can. As for my plans? I got news soon so stay tuned :)”

Alanis added: “I’d like to thank everyone over at Endpoint for the last year and a half for everything they have done for me, as well as my teammates, I really enjoyed it all. I will still be playing competitively and will be LFT moving forward for events in and outside of the women’s scene.”

Takara and geecee have also recently posted about looking for new opportunities:

Endpoint COO Peter Thompson commented: “Amazing group of women who have represented us for the last 21 months. Sad to see them go but who knows what will happen in the future and am very proud for what we achieved together.”

Coach BeastBound said: “More experience, more highlights, more to come! Thanks Endpoint for the opportunity. Had an incredible time coaching this team. Sad to close this chapter for now…”

Esports News UK editor Dom Sacco also spoke about the news on last weekend’s end-of-week Esports News UK news stream on Twitch, where former Wolves esports manager Michael Moriarty said in the chat: “Publishers don’t support the Women’s Car Ball Championship and the orgs that have run it have overpromised and f***** over everyone involved.

“Plus, the rules on this season’s RLCS means women’s teams signed to orgs with other RLCS teams can’t compete at the same time.

“Departure from the ruleset of last season and what Epic does in Fortnite with orgs drives everyone mad.”
