Superliga celebrates 25th season with newly merged orgs as GiantX Pride and Movistar Koi rosters prepare for Spring 2024

Superliga Spring 2024

The Superliga Spring 2024, Spain’s official League of Legends competition organised by LVP, is back – and it includes the GiantX Pride academy team.

The EMEA Regional League – one of the most popular alongside France’s LFL, is celebrating its 25th season.

LVP says this is a landmark that will be reflected in Superliga broadcasts and on its official channels throughout the season.

Recently, LVP’s Twitch channel has been replaying all the League of Legends national finals in special programming that ended yesterday (Tuesday January 16th) with the 2023 summer final, before the new season kicks off today (Wednesday January 17th).

This video promoting the Superliga Spring 2024 season sees various players, staff and management repeating the Spanish word ‘seguimos’, which means ‘we continue’ in English.

In spring 2024, three teams are making their debut – Zeta, Ramboot and Case Esports – all of which were members of the Superliga Second Division last season.

Additionally, two teams will be presenting new projects: GiantX Pride, the most successful team in the LVP (previously operating as Giants Gaming), which sees the comeback of one of its most iconic names in the year in which it returns to the LEC. This is the result of the UK’s Excel Esports and Spain’s Giants Gaming merging to form GiantX.

The other new team project is Movistar Koi, the result of the merger of Movistar Riders, Koi and Mad Lions, which is the current two-time champion of the league and aims to accomplish a treble, a feat unprecedented in the history of the competition.

Los Heretics, Barça eSports, Guasones, UCAM Esports and Rebels Gaming complete the list of candidates for the title.

The clash that will open the historic 25th Superliga season sees Barça eSports face off against CASE Esports (6pm), but the standout match of the first matchday starts at 9pm, with Los Heretics, reigning champions of the Iberian Cup, taking on the new GiantX Pride team, which aspires to win its seventh title, LVP says.

The Superliga will follow the same format as in previous seasons, with a regular league that leads to a playoff phase. Although the days they air will vary, the matches will be played every Wednesday and Thursday.

The regular season starts on January 17th and concludes on March 14th on matchday 18. The playoffs will commence a few days later and the grand final of the Superliga, the venue for which will be revealed in the coming weeks, is slated for early April.

The entire competition can be followed on LVP’s Twitch channel.

The news comes as GiantX also announce a renewed partnership with Kitkat, which will see the Nestlé chocolate bar brand remain an official partner for the esports org, with its logo on the sleeves of the GiantX Pride players.

Carla de Sivatte , head of the Nestlé chocolate business in Spain, said: “Continuing to be part of the great GiantX family for the fourth year makes us very happy, and we trust in continuing to achieve success. We have built a great community together , and we want to continue supporting gamers’ breaks by offering the best content.”
