Following London’s Split 2 Playoffs, 30 Apex Legends teams have qualified for the ALGS Championship 2023, to be held at Resorts World Birmingham. However, before the Championship begins, teams have the opportunity to fill one of the final 10 slots through the ALGS LCQ (Last Chance Qualifiers). The LCQ format is implemented across all five regions, and will determine the final teams to progress to the last LAN of the season.

What is the LCQ format?

LCQs are played in each individual region, meaning that five LCQ tournaments will be taking place, covering North America, EMEA, APAC-North, APAC-South and South America. Only two teams from each region will qualify for the ALGS Championship. These teams will be the final 10 joining the 30 teams qualified in advance.

Each region must follow the same format.

40 teams from each region are competing for the two slots. These 40 teams are seeded into two groups of 20. Until the Match Point LCQ Final, the tournament format echoes the Playoff and Championship LAN format.

Both groups of 20 start in the Winner’s Bracket, competing in Round 1 Group A and Round 1 Group B. The lower 10 teams from these brackets progress to Lower Bracket Round 1. The upper 10 teams from these brackets progress to Winners Bracket Round 2.

The top 10 teams from Winners Bracket Round 2 progress to the Match Point Final. The lower 10 teams compete with the top 10 teams from the Lower Bracket Round 1 in Lower Bracket Round 2. Any teams who do not make the top 10 in the Lower Bracket Round 1 are eliminated.

After the Lower Bracket Round 2, the top 10 teams from this round of games join the Match Point Finals, while the lower 10 are also eliminated.

LCQ Format Explained Flowchart ALGS 23

Vitally, the upcoming LCQ format Match Point Final varies from previous years. If a team wins the Match Point Final before a total of six games are played, all other 19 teams must continue playing until six games have been played. Whichever remaining team has the most points after those games joins the winner at the Championship.

Who is competing in the LCQ format?

All LCQ teams have now locked in their rosters. 40 teams from each region will be participating in the LCQ format in a bid to reach the Championship in Birmingham.

Below is a summary of all LCQ ALGS 2023 rostermania changes, broken down by region:

North America

During London’s Split 2 Playoffs, Furia’s HisWattson announced his retirement from competitive Apex Legends effective immediately. Furia has signed Albralelie to the team in his place. As a result, players ImMadness and Shooby will now be playing with Keon – who was recently removed from the Sentinels roster – under the name ‘Team Stability’. Both Furia and Team Stability will be playing in the LCQ format.

Following his departure from Aporia, Blueberry will be playing on ‘The Monkeys’, a free agent team.

Specter Esports replaced Kaisener and coach Soapz with Jet and coach Untold on their roster ahead of LCQs.

EMEA

Vexed gaming have released TylerFPS from their roster. The team will be playing in LCQs with gdolphn. GoNext have also replaced one of their players, adding B4mbino to their team. Although currently unconfirmed, rumours suggest that TylerFPS will be joining Element6 following their departure with Kind4.

APAC-N

Teams Naked and Northeption swapped players ahead of LCQs, with Northeption’s Reyzy joining Naked, and Naked’s Lykq being signed to Northeption. Additionally, Northeption will be playing LCQs with L1ng taking Taida’s place on the roster.

GHS Professional have also confirmed a new coaching team ahead of LCQs, signing D4ntalion (Head Coach) and Alpan (Assistant Coach).

Other APAC-N teams competing in LCQs include Crazy Raccoon, who were present at London’s Split 2 Playoffs.

APAC-S

Popular APAC-S team MDY White will be competing in LCQs with their ALGS Split 2 roster.

Although there have been minimal changes to LCQ rosters, Championship-qualified teams Moist and Blvkhvnd have already made their own roster changes. Blvkhvnd released Buegy from their roster, and have since signed PlayerKay ahead of Birmingham’s LAN.

Moist have announced that Prycyy will be leaving competitive Apex, and they have yet to announce a replacement.

Team Singularity have also announced their Championship roster, with artiNN1, Elysium, and B1n signed for the Birmingham LAN with their coach Besk9.

South America

ATHXHVY released player Vlatow from their roster, and are now playing in LCQs with asleepkingmaster, Trinityzy, and PonnyMVP. Vlatow will now be competing with Kurev and Brtus_o – both of which left LeaveNoWitness following the Split 2 Playoffs.

Glytch and Noctem, both of which were present at the London LAN, will also be fighting to qualify for the Championship.
