There’s an raft of UK esports talent at this weekend’s Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) Split 2 Playoffs, but some pro players aren’t too happy with the PCs provided at the event.
Specifically, they’re not impressed that they feature Nvidia 2070 graphics cards, with the expectation that they should have 3080s and above.

CK Kohli, founder of UK-based PC seller Alpha Beta PC, joked to Esports News UK: “Maybe they should be buying our Edge series of PCs to support the real gamers.”
The tournament, featuring a $1m prize pool and taking place at Stockholm, Sweden from April 29th to May 1st 2022, features 40 of the world’s best team’s in EA’s competitive shooter title.
There are UK players on K1CK (ChaoticMuch), GMT (SirDel), Alliance (Yuki), Element 6 (Slayers and Naghz), Reignite (Jmw).
Invictus Gaming also have an all-UK roster consisting of brynn, noiises, urban and coach EMEF.

The complaints are reminiscent of the recent ePremier League finals in London, where players complained that they were going to be forced to play on 50-inch TVs. Organisers changed the hardware to 24-inch gaming monitors at the last minute, however. But there was no such change made at this Apex Legends event.
The playoffs are underway with the group stage today (Friday April 29th 2022), with the top teams from each of the ALGS Pro League’s five regions split into four groups of ten teams.
Saturday April 30th will feature the bracket stage, while the finals will take place on Sunday May 1st.
Viewers will also get a preview of gameplay from the latest season of Apex Legends – Saviors – which launches on May 10th.
The broadcast also features ‘Multiview’, allowing viewers to have more control in terms of how they watch the matches, and there will also be Twitch drops available at twitch.tv/playapex.
Fans can watch the playoffs on up to four split-screen windows using the Command Center functionality on Twitch. Viewers can also watch certain teams and players, with the option to listen in to their in-game communications as well.
Some have also complained about the event’s strict covid protocols, with daily tests required and those testing positive unable to enter the venue or compete, though a sub player will be allowed to step in.
Earlier this year, Manchester-based content creation org Horizon Union moved into esports after acquiring an Apex Legends roster.
