Ubisoft has announced a new mobile FPS for iOS and Andoid devices, named Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Mobile, amidst reports it is also working on a separate battle royale shooter.
Rainbow Six mobile announced
Led by a new and dedicated team at Ubisoft Montreal, Rainbow Six Mobile aims to ‘deliver a true Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege experience, where tactical gameplay meets fast-paced action’.
Players will face off in 5v5 PVP matches in the ‘Attack vs Defense’ game mode. There will be maps from Siege, and like that PC/console game, there will be operators to choose from.
Attackers will deploy observation drones to gain intel and strategically breach through destructible walls, floors and ceilings, while defenders will barricade all entry points and use spy cameras or traps to secure their location.
Players can now sign up for a chance to participate in upcoming tests at rainbowsixmobile.com.
Esports News UK has asked Ubisoft if the mobile game will feature tournaments or any esports activities, and a spokesperson responded.
They said: “We have nothing to share about esports plans at this time, our focus is on delivering a great experience on mobile and giving players an opportunity to play Rainbow Six where they want, when they want.”
Ubisoft working on new battle royale shooter ‘Pathfinder’ – report
In other Ubisoft news, the publisher is reportedly working on a new third-person battle royale shooter Pathfinder.
The game is said to consist of teams of four players who drop into a map and work towards the centre to fight a computer-controlled boss, reports Exputer’s Tom Henderson. Players will apparently need to navigate their way through two main walls and a series of breachable gates that change depending on each match.
The report comes after Ubisoft announced it was shutting down its previous attempt at the battle royale shooter, Hyper Scape, back in January 2022.
Ubisoft said it took ‘key learnings from this game into future products’, which could mean Pathfinder.
“We set out to create a vertical, close-quarters, and fast-paced shooter experience and we are extremely grateful to our community for joining us on our journey,” Ubisoft said. “We will be taking key learnings from this game into future products.”
In other recent Rainbow Six news, the Rainbow Six Siege Northern Premier League was announced, bridging UK, Ireland and Nordics for a new €25,000 esports competition.
