SK Gaming re-entered the Rocket League scene yesterday, picking up the former Aether roster, ahead of the RLCS X Spring European Major this weekend.

The veteran esports organisation is now home to UK player Dylan ‘eekso’ Pickering, alongside German teammate Damian ‘Tox’ Schäfer and Austrian Maurice ‘Yukeo’ Weihs.

The anticipated pick-up sees SK Gaming return to Rocket League after a five-year hiatus, having previously hosted a European team in 2016 – the year after the game was released.

The Aether roster formed after eekso, who had been dropped from Galaxy Racer, banded together with then-free agents Tox, previously of Giants Gaming, and former Dignitas and Fadeaway player Yukeo, in March this year.

“It’s been a few years since we’ve scored goals with cars, and when the opportunity arose to sign this team, we really wanted to get back into the game again.”

The team found quick success, immediately qualifying for RLCS X Spring Regional Event 1 and more recently placing second in the Spring Regional Event 3.

The signing comes ahead of Europe’s RLCS X Spring Major this weekend, which the team qualified for through their results in the Spring Regionals.

They are currently ranked sixth in Europe according to RLCS points accrued across the Spring split.

“I’m excited for the future and happy to be moving forward with @Yukeo, @Toxtraponized and [coach] @Snaski10 under such a legendary org”, eekso said on Twitter.

“This has been a super long time in the making and we’re very excited to have found this roster to represent us going forward”, SK Gaming said on their official Reddit account. “[We’re] stoked about the Major this weekend!”

SK Gaming CGO Martin Marquardt commented: “It’s been a few years since we’ve scored goals with cars, and when the opportunity arose to sign this team, we really wanted to get back into the game again. The Rocket League community is one of the most vibrant ones out there and we look forward to not only competing, but also to bring the fans entertainment on a new level.”

The European Major, which is the culmination of the third and final Split of RLCS X, kicks off online today at 4pm BST at Twitch.tv/RocketLeague.
