G2 Esports reveals new long-term partnership with Wizards of the Coast, starting with Exodus

G2 CS players in a new jersey cross-over

G2 Esports has announced a long-term partnership with Wizards of the Coast, the publisher behind Magic: The Gathering, Dungeons & Dragons and a growing slate of video game titles. The collaboration will see different Wizards of the Coast games featured on G2’s Counter-Strike jersey, starting at EWC CS2 event on 12 August.

The partnership will kick off with Exodus, the upcoming sci-fi action RPG developed by Archetype Entertainment, a Wizards of the Coast studio. You’ll get a first look at the jersey during the G2 vs M80 matchup.

Alban Dechelotte, CEO of G2 Esports, framed it simply: “The best partnerships are the ones that make sense without needing much explanation. Our fans love games, Wizards of the Coast has been creating games people care about for decades, and this collaboration is a natural way to bring those worlds together.

Mark Cox, Senior Director of Regional Marketing at Wizards of the Coast, added: “G2 and Counter-Strike were the obvious fit for Wizards of the Coast. As few teams shape how fans experience gaming the way G2 and its players do.

The partnership fits G2’s broader pattern of collaborations that push beyond pure esports sponsorship, having previously worked with Ralph Lauren, One Piece and Solo Leveling on similar cross-cultural projects. Wizards of the Coast get access to one of esports’ most engaged global audiences. G2 get a publisher with five decades of brand recognition behind them. It makes sense on paper.

What could come next from the G2 Wizards partnership?

The more interesting question is where the collaboration goes beyond Exodus. Wizards of the Coast’s portfolio is enormous. Perhaps more limited edition jerseys appear with other Wizards collab?

Magic: The Gathering is the obvious one. It also comes at a time where more gaming companies are partnering with TCGs. See Riftbound and T1, KC has its own card game, and Nodwin is trying its hands at it too. Maybe the next set appears on their jersey; maybe G2 gets rare cards in the next set as across over. There are many possibilities there.

Dungeons & Dragons is another obvious candidate. It also revealed a WoW and Star Wars collab at Gen Con the other week too. So again, there’s also room where appropriate.

On Exodus specifically, the game is targeting a 2027 release window, and with Gamescom just around the corner. It does make us ponder if that’s a slow marketing ramp up again to get the potential Mass Effect resuss-like game back in people’s minds. Not too sure if esports audiences will be interested in the game like that. But, it will certainly help draw attention to the single-player RPG regardless.

Let’s see where this goes.
