Legendary League of Legends toplaner Jeong ‘Impact’ Eon-young has announced he is leaving Team Liquid.
The announcement comes after the North American organisation were shockingly eliminated from LoL World Championship qualification early.
The Korean previously won the LoL World Championships with SKT T1 back in 2013.
He has also won six North American titles in the LCS/LTA, all during his two stints with Team Liquid.
Team Liquid has never won an NA title without Impact, so they likely won’t be favoured by LoL betting sites next season.
100 Thieves eliminated Tea Liquid early into the LTA Summer Playoffs in a straight 3-0 sweep.
According to the LoL global contract database, Impact’s contract expires in November this year.
Though judging by his goodbye video, it seems Impact is ready to leave anyway.
Speaking about his decision, Impact said:
“I think this year, I don’t do my job very well. It sucks, I’m sorry.
“I think I’d better take a break, like one or two months. and think about what I want to do. Because I feel like, this year especially, I lose my passion too much.
“Because, I’m not having fun playing League with teammates. It’s not like I haven’t done a lot, I’ve played this game 13 years. It’s almost 20% of my life.”
Hey everyone, it’s been a while. I just wanted to share some thoughts about this year and what’s next for me.

This year, I did get one win but honestly, it felt more like luck. After that, things went downhill for both the team and for me. I lost a lot of confidence, and when… https://t.co/otH9u6BZLo
The 30-year-old also added he’s looking for direction in his life:
“My problem is I can’t control my emotions too much, I’m kind of an honest guy.
“I just broke up with my girlfriend too, we dated for six years. At the same time, the team wasn’t doing well together. I played kinda poorly.
“I think I lost my goal in my life, what do I want to do? It’s kind of no future, if I keep playing, I keep playing for what?”

The LTA’s first championship that unifies both North and South American LoL teams is underway.
And through that, the LTA’s three Worlds teams have already been decided.
Reigning NA champions and last year’s Worlds heroes FlyQuest have qualified for Worlds yet again after sweeping Vivo Keyd Stars.
They defeated VKS 3-0 despite playing without Gabriël ‘Bwipo’ Rau as Bwipo was suspended for sexist comments about menstruation.
Similarly, despite announcing they’ll quit LoL at the end of the year, 100 Thieves have qualified for Worlds 2025 after beating RED Canids 3-0.
And having won the LTA South’s regional championships, VKS is guaranteed a top-three finish and Worlds qualification spot.
