Riot Games reveal GO4LoLs are back for the UK scene – and beyond

GO 4 LoL poster for LoL Classic

Riot Games has revealed it is reintroducing the GO4LoL events, which were hallmarks the mid to late 10’s for the pro-am League of Legends scene. The news comes as League Classic gains momentum,, with Riot heavily marketing the event from MSI, in the client, and at pro scenes of EWC and the regional leagues.

The news comes from the The EU LCS Classic Showmatch during the opening weekend of the LEC Summer Split. We also received confirmation that GO4LoL is making a comeback, with a brand new UK and Ireland edition running on League of Legends Classic. There’s also events for other nations and regions.

What is GO4LoL?

For newer players who might not know the name, GO4LoL was ESL’s weekly community tournament series that ran during the early years of League of Legends. The idea was to give amateur and semi-professional teams a structured competitive ladder to climb. The main idea behind it was to help foster the grassroots scene, offering exclusive rewards for competing, some small cash prizes, and qualification to other events around.

Esports News UK covered UK GO4 events during their original run. It was a formative part of British League of Legends culture, alongside games like CS and Siege, too. They tend to offer small cash prizes but allow teams to get experience playing in tournament-like settings, with much lower pro-am stakes.

The First UK Classic GO4LoL Event

With the event’s resurrection, The first UK and Ireland League Classic tournament is scheduled for Sunday August 16th, running from 12:00 to 19:00 BST. Registration closes at noon on the same day. You can register via Challengermode here:

The format is single elimination with best-of-one matches and random seeding, keeping things quick and accessible. Teams can include up to two non-UK and Ireland players including substitutes. All players must be 16 or over and residents or citizens of countries within the EMEA region.

All participants must also join the UKEL Tournament Discord ahead of competing.

Prizes are distributed across the top finishers as follows:

  • 1st Place: 1x Exclusive Skin (TBC) each
  • 2nd Place: 1x of 10 Skins each
  • 3rd and 4th Place: 6x Orbs each
  • Top 32: 3x Orbs each
  • Top 64: 1x Hextech Chest and Key each

The exclusive skin for first place is yet to be confirmed. Prizes are distributed between the five active players unless teams request otherwise.

If you want to relive the GO4LoL era or simply take League Classic into a proper competitive setting for the first time, August 16th is your date. The full tournament ruleset is available via the Challengermode page.

If you’re from other regions, there’s other Challengermode pages for other nations and regions too. The chances are that you’ll find something that fits your locale.
