FiReSPORTS confirm Buenos Aires Counter-Strike Major

FiReSPORTS have confirmed that the tournament organiser will host the first Counter-Strike major of 2027 in Buenos Aires.

Officially dubbed the FiReSPORTS Buenos Aires Major 2027, the event will take place from May 31 to June 20th.

The tournament organiser posted the following on social media:

“HISTORIC: Buenos Aires will host the CS2 Major for the first time in June 2027.

In the land of Messi and Maradona, the passion for Counter-Strike is as powerful as for football.

We are going to give it our all to make this a great Major. HERE WE GO!”

History to be made in Buenos Aires Major

The news confirms the first Counter-Strike major to be held in Argentina, and the second South American Counter-Strike Major after IEM Rio 2022.

The announcement swiftly follows a report by HLTV, which named Buenos Aires and Shanghai the sites of the two 2027 Counter-Strike majors.

FiReSPORTS, a relatively minor and regional tournament organiser, is a surprise choice for hosting a major.

FiReSPORTS initially were scheduled to host three Tier 1 events in conjunction with PGL in 2025; those events were later cancelled.

The result is that the TO has not hosted a Tier 1 event prior to this announcement.

Instead, it has hosted several Tier 2 events in Argentina, including the $150,000 FiReSPORTS Global Finals.

The TO gained notoriety for hosting FiReLEAGUE Buenos Aires 2025 in a station of the Buenos Aires Subway/Underground.

The Shanghai Major is yet to be confirmed, but is expected to be organised by Perfect World, mirroring the Perfect World 2024 Shanghai Major.

If true, there will be no Counter-Strike Major in Europe until at least 2028; however, rumours again point to hosts outside of Europe for 2028’s majors as well, showing a clear change in strategy from Valve.

HLTV’s report also included that BLAST and ESL are to host the 2028 CS2 Majors, showing that Valve is not limiting itself to a certain type of Tournament Organiser.

Whether the most established TO in Counter-Strike, or a relatively inexperienced one, Valve seems open to such TOs for the largest tournament on the Counter-Strike calendar.
