Typhoon cancels LPL series between IG and BLG

A League of Legends match has been cancelled between LPL teams Invictus Gaming and Bilibili Gaming because of Typhoon Co-May.

Heavy rain has hit Eastern China, followed by tsunami warnings which have also hit California, Hawaii, and Japan.

This extreme weather is a result of an earthquake, the strongest recorded since 2011 and the sixth strongest ever, which hit Russia.

In addition to the LPL match, the tsunami has also cancelled the two-player co-op update for Elden Ring Nightreign.

Typhoon Co-May has caused 283,000 people to be evacuated from Shanghai and its surrounding areas.

It has also caused hundreds of flights and ferries to be cancelled.

China’s official League of Legends studio is also located in Shanghai, which is why the IG vs BLG had to be cancelled.

The official statement from the LPL read:

“Due to the impacts of the typhoon on our homes in Shanghai, in order to ensure the safety of spectators, players, and staff, today’s IG vs BLG series will be postponed.

“We will communicate the reschedule and ticket arrangements as soon as possible. Thank you for your support and understanding!

“To our friends in Shanghai – please stay safe! We look forward to watching you again soon. With Love, LPL English Staff.”

New date for IG vs BLG in the LPL confirmed

The best-of-three series was originally scheduled for today, July 30th, at 12pm BST, but was postponed.

Now, the LPL has announced the match will take place on an additional gameday on Thursday, August 28th, with LoL betting sites backing Invictus Gaming to get the win.

With the LPL Split 3 Playoffs, called Grand Finals, scheduled to start on Saturday, August 30th, there will only be a two-day break instead of three.

Meanwhile, today’s other LPL series between Team WE and Anyone’s Legend still went ahead at 10am BST.

This was because the match took place in Team WE’s own home venue, the Xi’an Qujiang Esports Center.

Team WE is a Shanghai-based esports organisation, but the venue is located 1,300 miles west in the city of Xi’an in Shaanxi.

Both teams were winless going into the series, but it was MSI finalist Anyone’s Legend who came out on top 2-1 in the end.

Meanwhile, fellow MSI representatives BLG are undefeated with new jungler Zhao ‘Shad0w’ Zhi-Qiang, formerly of MAD Lion.

However, that’s only across two series because of today’s earlier postponement, though they are due to face Weibo Gaming tomorrow.
