Tournament organiser FISSURE has announced the immediate cancellation of its upcoming Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) event, FISSURE Playground 3, alongside two other future tournaments.
Originally scheduled to take place in Shenzhen, China, from April 20th to 26th, the event has been pulled from the calendar due to what the organiser describes as a “logistical conflict in the competitive calendar.”
The decision comes at a pivotal moment in the CS2 season, coinciding with the latest launch of the Valve Regional Standings (VRS), which would have determined the invites for the Shenzhen LAN.
Calendar congestion forces FISSURE’s hand
The primary reason for the cancellation appears to be a clash with other international events.
In a statement shared on social media, FISSURE explained that an overlap with a major tournament in South America meant that players would be unable to travel to China in time for the start of the Playground 3 broadcast.
“Due to overlap with another major tournament in South America, players would not be able to reach Shenzhen in time for the start of our event,” the organiser stated.
The move highlights the increasingly crowded nature of the professional Counter-Strike circuit, where back-to-back global travel often leaves teams with little room for error in their travel schedules.
Future Playground events also scrapped
In a surprising move, FISSURE also confirmed that it is proactively cancelling FISSURE Playground 4 (set for July 2026) and FISSURE Playground 7 (set for 2027).
The organiser cited lessons learned from previous events, specifically FISSURE Playground 1, noting that hosting tournaments during official player breaks often results in a lower level of competition that doesn’t meet their standards for a “spectacle.”
By removing these dates now, the organiser aims to avoid the “burnout” and “sub-par competition” that can occur when events are shoehorned into an already exhausted schedule.
Concerns remain for September Shenzhen event
Despite the trio of cancellations, FISSURE has reaffirmed its commitment to the CS2 scene and its remaining 2026/2027 roadmap.
However, industry eyes are already turning to their next scheduled event in September.
That tournament is currently slated to begin in Shenzhen just 24 hours after the conclusion of the BLAST Open Fall 2026 in Europe.
Given the travel time between the two continents, FISSURE may face a familiar logistical headache regarding team attendance and player fatigue.
For now, FISSURE says work on future Counter-Strike projects continues, with further details on their remaining 2026 events expected in the coming months.
