Pokémon TCG Pocket wins iPhone Game of the Year 2025

The Pokémon Company and DeNa’s Pokémon TCG Pocket has won iPhone Game of the Year 2025.

The mobile TCG won against the strategy game Thronefall and adorable Roguelike Capybara Go! to win the award.

Pokémon Pocket also won Google Play’s Best Game of 2025 award earlier this year.

The virtual version of the Pokémon trading card game, with faster and simplified gameplay, has proven to be very popular.

After more than 150 million downloads, Pokémon Pocket made more profit in its first year than Pokémon Go did.

The mobile TCG made an estimated $1.3 billion (£988m) in profits during its first year alone.

The game’s absurd popularity has seen over 18 billion virtual Pokémon card packs opened on the app.

That has led to over 111bn virtual cards being collected, with the game’s substantial playerbase creating over 490m showcases of their favourite cards.

Pokémon Pocket also saw over 96m trades and a staggering 12bn battles during its first year.

This then led to over 6bn in-game ‘thanks’ being sent.

Now the game is currently in its second set following the release of its huge Mega Rising expansion, which comprises of three packs.

However, the next Pokémon Pocket expansion is releasing sooner than expected, according to recent leaks from dataminers.

No other details are known about the upcoming update yet, though it’s assumed it will be a one-pack expansion.

The new expansion’s imminent release is why the current ranked season is much shorter, with fewer points required to rank up.

Upcoming Pokémon Pocket Wonder Pick event leaked

Another Wonder Pick event is coming to Pokémon Pocket next week, as discovered by dataminers.

The game already has a Wonder Pick event underway with new promo art versions of Torchic and Psyduck, with cute Psyduck cosmetic rewards.

Now, on December 7th, DeNa are adding another event with promo art cards for Drifblim and another new Eevee card.

This will be the seventeenth version of Eevee in the game, as the normal type’s fourth promo card in the game.

The upcoming event will bring more missions to Pokémon Pocket with earnable Mega-Gyarados cosmetics.

A very cool black and white design of the Mega Evolution will appear on a new playmat, card sleeve, and cover.

There will also be a full-colour Mega Gyarados coin, as well as a Magikarp icon and a golden Magikarp backdrop.

The final rewards, available by collecting the event’s tickets, are Shindust and a Christmas-themed backdrop.
