Brie Larson revealed as Rosalina in The Super Mario Galaxy movie

The first trailer for the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy movie has revealed two new characters coming to the big screen.

Bowser Jr. and Rosalina will both appear in the movie, which is scheduled to release on April 3rd, 2026.

Rosalina will be voiced by Academy Award-winning actress Brie Larson, who will be playing another woman in space after Captain Marvel.

Meanwhile, Bowser Jr. will be voiced by Benny Safdie, who appeared in both Oppenheimer and Happy Gilmore 2.

They will be joined by the returning cast of Chris Pratt (Mario), Jack Black (Bowser), Charlie Day (Luigi), and Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach).

The Super Mario Galaxy movie was revealed back in September, along with other Nintendo announcements.

This included enhanced re-releases of the Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 games in a new bundle for the Nintendo Switch 2.

Bowser Jr’s appearance in the film was accidentally leaked by an online retailer listing Super Mario Galaxy-themed Pillsbury sugar cookies.

The back of the box features a mini game which uses the painted logo of Bowser Jr. on the box.

The leaked cookies also revealed the movie render of Yoshi, who didn’t appear in the first trailer.

Yoshi was teased for the sequel during a post-credits scene from the first Super Mario movie.

First Super Mario Galaxy movie trailer

Nintendo and Illumination have released the first trailer for the Super Mario Galaxy movie.

The trailer sees Bowser still in his shrunken state after the end of the first movie. He appears in a replica of his castle, painting pictures for Princess Peach.

His artistic flair appears to be foreshadowing for his son, Bowser Jr., who appears to be the main villain with his paintbrush weapon in the upcoming film.

Bowser Jr. has his futuristic, mask-wearing look from the Super Mario Wonder game, while his paintbrush debuted in Super Mario Sunshine.

The film appears to draw from many different Mario games, with Mario and Luigi appearing on a sandy planet reminiscent of a Mario Odyssey level.

Other action sequences show Princess Peach fighting off Ninjis as well as Peach and Toad launching into space and landing on a water-filled planet.

The first Mario movie achieved a worldwide box office gross of over $1.361 billion (£1.03bn), the first video game adaptation to make over one billion.

It’s been a successful few years for Nintendo, with the Pokémon Pocket mobile game making more profit in its first year than Pokémon Go.
