Fnatic sweep GIANTX to keep LoL Worlds dream alive

Fnatic defeated GIANTX to book their place at the LEC Summer Finals in Madrid and keep their Worlds hopes alive.

It was a clean 3-0 sweep for Fnatic after a dramatic late comeback in Game 1.

GIANTX threw away a 10k gold lead in the first game and weren’t able to recover for the remaining games.

Fnatic now face a series against Karmine Corp in Madrid to decide who will attend the LoL World Championships.

It could have been a completely different series if GIANTX hadn’t fumbled the first match.

GIANTX had dominated Fnatic before securing an ace, capturing Elder Dragon, and Baron buff.

This gave GIANTX a 10k gold lead; you would’ve found ridiculous in-play odds on LoL betting sites for a Fnatic comeback.

Yet, Fnatic somehow managed to hold onto their base as GIANTX tried to play things safe.

Then a disastrous call saw GIANTX engage mid while Adam ‘Jackies’ Jeřábek tried to backdoor on Taliyah.

Fnatic were able to ace the fight and use Nocturne’s ultimate to defend, then push through every tower in mid lane to win.

After that, Fnatic won the next two games rather comfortably and brought an end to GIANTX’s LEC season.

Fnatic jungler Iván ‘Razork’ Martín Díaz admitted he wasn’t expecting the result:

“No, for sure I didn’t expect it would be a 3-0.

“I think from our practice, we were kinda beating or almost beating every team. But I think GIANTX were the ones that were hardest for us.

“After we won Game 1, they probably collapsed. I would have been mega tilted too.”

Previously, Fnatic LEC coach Fabian ‘GrabbZ’ Lohmann scalded the team for not practising hard enough.

Razork says the team atmosphere has improved dramatically:

“We didn’t take the KOI loss too hard. This week, we still practised very well, and everyone was still very motivated and hungry to make it for Worlds.

LEC Summer Playoffs 2025 Madrid finals preview

There is a week-long break from the LEC, which means the Summer finals long weekend won’t start until Friday, September 26th.

The first match will be absolutely crucial as Fnatic will take on Karmine Corp with their season on the line.

Whoever wins that series will qualify as EMEA’s third and final representative at this year’s Worlds.

And the loser will see their year end prematurely.

KCorp have already attended an international event this year in First Stand, but have struggled since.

Meanwhile, Fnatic losing would mark their first failure to qualify for Worlds since 2016.

Then, the winner will face Movistar KOI to decide who will take on G2 Esports for the LEC title.

G2 might come into the final a little cold as they will have spent three weeks without competing on stage.
