What’s next for G2 Hel after they reached the Equal Esports Cup 2024 final? Here’s what’s happening in the Swedish LoL league

G2 Hel 2024 Roster in NLC

Women’s League of Legends team G2 Hel return to competition this weekend (September 8th 2024) in the Svenska Onlineligan first division.

G2 Hel return after an almost two-week break, having last played at the Equal Esports Cup 2024 LAN Finals, where they reached the grand final and lost 2-1 to German side NNOwO.

For their third match in the Svenska Onlineligan 1st division, G2 Hel will face FrittFall.

G2 Hel consists of Lizia (top, Sweden), Shiina (jungle, Spain), Sha (mid, France), Caltys (ADC, Sweden) and Colomblbl (support, France).

The Svenska Onlineligan is a Swedish League of Legends competition that has been running since 2021. It’s currently in its ninth season, and features seven divisions. The top two teams from the first division qualify to the Northern League of Legends Championship (NLC) Regional Promotion Series, where they compete for promotion to the NLC 2nd division. This circuit is for the UK, Ireland and Nordics LoL scene.

The format is single round-robin with best-of-three matches. The top six teams will qualify to the playoffs, with the top two being seeded directly into the offline LAN finals. The bottom three teams will play against the top three teams from the 2nd division in a promotion/relegation tournament.

The current Svenska Onlineligan Division 1 season began on August 18th. G2 Hel played their first match on the 22nd, being defeated 2-0 by Team CD. They were scheduled to play their second match on the 25th, versus Int Esports, but forfeited, as at the time they were in Cologne, Germany, for the Equal Esports Cup LAN Finals.

The Equal Esports Cup featured several UK players, including Trez for Team GO Aurora (of GamersOrigin), Vixen for Mad Lions Koi Femenino (Female), Pivotless for Chester Gaming and Nightingale, Tabby and Naddy for Nord Polaris.

While all upcoming Svenska Onlineligan matches are originally scheduled for Sunday evening, teams are allowed to reschedule with mutual agreement.

This season, the Svenska Onlineligan has also branched out into Valorant as well, with the very first match taking place today.

This all comes as G2’s separate LEC team won the LEC Season Finals 2024.

G2 Hel’s match against FrittFall is scheduled for 5.30pm BST on Sunday September 8th. For more info, check out the schedule on the official Challengermode tournament page. There’s also the Svenska Onlineligan Twitch channel.

A brief history of G2 Hel in the LoL EMEA Regional Leagues

G2 Hel’s run in the EMEA Regional Leagues began in January 2023 by competing in the NLC second division last chance qualifier. They finished in the Top 8 amongst 16 teams, thus earning a spot in the NLC third division.

Hel finished sixth out of 10 teams in the NLC third division Group A with a 4-5 match record (10-10 game record). Going into the last matchday they had a chance of placing top four and therefore qualifying to the playoffs, but they forfeited due to being in Bahrain for the GirlGamer World Finals at the time.

They competed again in the NLC third division Group A for the summer split, repeating their sixth place finish albeit with a 5-4 match record (10-10 game record).

In the build-up to the 2024 spring split, Vanir withdrew at the last moment from the NLC 2nd division. The tournament organisers decided to fill this spot through an open application process, and G2 Hel was chosen to compete in NLC Division 2.

They finished last of ten teams after a 2-16 game record. This meant they’d have to defend their second division spot in the NLC RPS, where a quarter-final defeat relegated them down to the national leagues.

Teams and notable Swedish players in the Svenska Onlineligan Season 9 first division

Other teams G2 Hel face in the league are FrittFall, Asini, Bardicted to U, DMG Sweden, Int Esports, Karolinerna, Leo Esports, Regem and Team CD.

In terms of players, Alexx from Bardicted to U is the most competitively accomplished player in the event. He played for three years in top ERLs, including a year with G2 Arctic in the LVP SuperLiga. He also won the UK League Championship back in 2020.

Zvene from Karolinerna is also a highly experienced competitive player. In his decade in competitive LoL, one of his achievements has been winning the Nordic Championship in the 2018 spring split and competing in the first-ever EU Masters immediately after.

Pipey from Regem & Holmberg from Team CD faced G2 Hel in the NLC 2nd division. They played for UK org Fourth Wall and UniQ respectively, which scored 2-0 and 1-1 vs G2 Hel respectively.

And Emp from Team CD competed in the NLC 1st division earlier this year.

G2 Hel in the Coupe des Étoiles

G2 Hel are also currently participating in the Coupe des Étoiles, the official French female/non-binary tournament.

They won June’s qualifier with a perfect 8-0 record, getting 800 qualification points. After skipping July’s qualifier, they returned in August and finished second, losing 2-1 to Solary Académie in the final. This gave G2 Hel an additional 500 qualification points, meaning they have already secured one of the eight spots in October’s main event regardless of what happens in next weekend’s final qualifier.
