G2 Esports women’s team, G2 Hel, have been added to Division 2 of the Northern League of Legends Championship (NLC).
They replace Vanir in the second tier of the EMEA Regional League (ERL) for the UK, Ireland and Nordics. Vanir recently dropped from Division 1 to 2, after Lionscreed acquired their NLC Division 1 spot, and soon after, Vanir withdrew entirely from Division 2.
The NLC organisers, Leagues.gg, then opened applications for the spot – and G2 Hel were accepted in. They’re no strangers to the NLC, having competed in Division 3 last year.
G2 Hel consists of Lizia (top, Sweden), Shiina (jungle, Spain), Sha (mid, France), Caltys (ADC, Sweden) and Colomblbl (support, France).
They join other teams in NLC Division 2 Spring 2024 including UniQ, Ruzeh, RichGangstas, Karolinerna, Kaos, Garden Gaming, Fourth Wall, Blue Whites and 42 Gaming.
Esports News UK understands G2 Hel have been scrimming NLC Division 2 teams recently. A source said they don’t intend to scrim below the ERL2 level at all this year.
Another source claimed that Mad Lions Koi female were interested in joining the league.
The news comes one week after G2 Hel announced Sha and Emtest as their new mid-laner and coach respectively, in their 2024 roster reveal.
Christian Vejvad, PR and Marketing Lead at Leagues.gg, told Esports News UK: “We’re very pleased to welcome G2 Hel to the NLC Division 2. Naturally, we’re excited to house an organisation with such strong a history, and can’t wait to see what it brings to our region.
“We had the pleasure of working with the team and staff last year in our Division 3, and are very stoked to see them step up a level.
G2 Hel were first announced back in September 2022, with G2 signing the roster that won the GirlGamer Oradea Festival EU LoL tournament.
NLC Division 1 kicked off earlier this week on January 24th 2024.
