G2 Esports secured their latest League of Legends EMEA Championship today, as they beat Fnatic, who have also just qualified for MSI 2024.

The LoL team of London-headquartered organisation Fnatic looked like they might cause an upset today: they took game one in a series that was full of laneswap shenanigans.

Fnatic’s South Korean bot laners Noah and Jun went 12-3-12 and 2-0-27 respectively, bullying BrokenBlade (1-8-8) in the early game as G2 focused on taking the top tower.

But G2 came back into it, with a strong Yike performance (7-2-10) and Caps performance (9-3-5) in game two.

Caps and the G2 bot lane of Hans Sama and Mikyx turned up the heat in games three and four to seal the series, securing G2’s latest LEC title after G2 beat Mad Lions Koi in the Winter 2024 LEC earlier this year.

Fnatic added in a tweet: “Couldn’t find the magic where it mattered, and we fall at the last hurdle. Disappointed to not pull through in the finals, but proud of our efforts to battle through the odds in the lower bracket. Thank you for the support this split, and we’ll see you for MSI.”

After beating GiantX and losing to G2 in the upper bracket of the LEC Spring 2024 playoffs, Fnatic pulled off one of their classic lower bracket runs, beating Heretics, Vitality and BDS before facing G2 in the final today.

LEC 2024 Grand Finals info

It was also revealed that the LEC 2024 Grand Finals and EMEA Masters 2024 finals will take place on the weekend of August 30th and September 1st 2024 at the Munich Olympic Hall in Germany.

Tickets go on sale June 14th, with Santander offering early access to ticket sales for European card holders on June 8th, the start of the summer split.

The Head of the Department of Labor and Economic Development in Munich, Clemens Baumgärtner, said: “We are so proud to host the 2024 LEC Season Finals. We can’t wait to welcome League of Legends fans and showcase how Munich is an exciting tourist destination for the esports community. We believe the event will showcase the city as a sought-after high-tech and digital location.”

Bavarian State Minister for Digital Affairs, Dr. Fabian Mehring, said: “We are delighted to be bringing the 2024 LEC Season Finals – the biggest annual League of Legends Esports event in EMEA – to Bavaria. Esports has captivated a vibrant and vivid community of players worldwide. This combination of digital enthusiasm and cosmopolitanism fits perfectly with the hospitable, high-tech location of Bavaria.”

The LEC has partnered with MVV (Münchner VerkehrsVerbund) to ensure that all tickets will include access to public transport to and from the venue.

Season Finals and Worlds Qualification

Riot has adjusted how teams qualify for the 2024 LEC Season Finals this year. With an increase in emphasis on the Summer Split, the Summer Champion will automatically qualify for the Season Finals and the teams that place 2nd and 3rd will join them.

The remaining three teams will qualify through a combination of Winter and Spring Split Champions and combined Championship Points.

When it comes to Worlds qualification for EMEA teams, the 2024 LEC Season Champion will automatically secure EMEA’s #1 seed, with the runner-up from Munich securing the #2 seed. EMEA’s #3 seed will then go to either the winner of the Summer Split (provided they don’t finish #1 or #2 at Season Finals) or the LEC Season Finals 3rd placed team.
