2024 BAFTA Games Awards longlist released, Baldur’s Gate 3 in the running for 11 categories

2024 BAFTA Games Awards

BAFTA has released its industry-voted longlist for the 2024 BAFTA Games Awards, with 60 games in the running for at least one nomination each.

This is the first time that BAFTA has released a longlist in the award show’s long-standing history.

Games released between December 10th 2022 and November 24th 2023 were eligible to compete for an award, and BAFTA members whittled down a catalogue of 257 games to finalised the longlist.

BAFTA is of course short for the British Academy Film Awards, and has been running its own games-specific awards for 20 years now, since 2004.

The new longlist was selected by over 1,200 members across 17 categories. Games on the list are not guaranteed an award, as BAFTA members and juries will decide the potential winners of each category in shortlists announced March 7th 2024. Winners will then be announced at the 2024 BAFTA Games Awards on April 11th 2024.

BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip said: “For 20 years, BAFTA has celebrated great talent in the games industry with the annual BAFTA Games Awards. This year, we hope to amplify that celebration by publishing our Best Games of 2023 list – the longlist for next year’s Awards, as voted for by games industry professionals – just in time to inspire some festive gameplay.”

Baldur’s Gate 3 longlisted for the most 2024 BAFTA Games Awards

Having already won a bunch of different games awards this year, Baldur’s Gate 3 unsurprisingly leads the charge at the 2024 BAFTA Games Awards, being longlisted for 11 different awards.

They include Best Animation, Artistic Achievement, Audio Achievement, Best Game, Game Design, Multiplayer, Music, Narrative, Technical Achievement, Performer in a Leading Role and Performer in a Supporting Role.

Baldur’s Gate 3 voice actor Neil Newbon has also received more recognition for his performance as the sassy rogue character Astarion, with the 45-year-old in the running for Best Performer in a Leading Role.

Neil Newbon also won Best Performance at the Game Awards 2023, and Newbon winning the Best Supporting Performer prize at Golden Joysticks 2023.

He is joined by two other Baldur’s Gate 3 voice actors in the Best Performer in a Leading Role category: Amelia Tyler as Narrator and Samantha Béart as Karlach.

Amelia Tyler also recently narrated the PC Gaming Show alongside host Frankie Ward.

Other British actors like Idris Elba (as Solomon Reed in Cyberpunk 2077) were also longlisted in the separate ‘Performer in a Supporting Role’ category, plus other Baldur’s Gate 3 voice actors including Andrew Wincott as Raphael, Tracy Wiles as Jaheira and Dave Jones as Halsin.

In terms of other games, Alan Wake 2 sits just behind the fantasy RPG and has been listed in 10 categories – all of Baldur’s Gate 3’s except Multiplayer.

In a surprising addition, Hogwarts Legacy – despite not being nominated in any category at the Game Awards 2023 – has been longlisted for nine potential trophies.

Spider-Man 2 is in the running for nine categories too, with Final Fantasy XVI looking to get its hands on eight awards.

There is also a top British-made games longlist (see below).
