FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) database and information website Futhead has closed down, the brand has today confirmed.
The site contained information about the latest in-game FUT player cards, including stats, prices and other key info, and allowed gamers to discuss and comment about them.
The site was one of the first to offer this kind of service around the FIFA series of video games, having launched back in 2011, back when the FIFA Ultimate Team game mode was still relatively new.
“Hello Futhead Community, Unfortunately we have had to shut down operations. We’re so appreciative of your contribution and engagement over the years and wish you a bright, FIFA/FC filled future.”
Dan Paulson and Chris Conover co-founded Futhead after getting hooked on FIFA 11, according to this article by Buzzfeed.
The site went on to attract millions of visitors and was acquired by Curse for $1.1m in 2013.
However, in recent years, other similar FUT databases have grown in popularity, including Futbin and Futwiz, who also operate as a UK esports organisation in competitive FIFA. Recently, Futwiz were robbed in the FIFAe World Cup 2023 final after a penalty shootout controversy.
The website is currently displaying the following static statement across all of its pages: “Hello Futhead Community, Unfortunately we have had to shut down operations. We’re so appreciative of your contribution and engagement over the years and wish you a bright, FIFA/FC filled future.”
FIFA community pays respect to Futhead as database shuts down for good
Former users of the database took to social media platforms such as Twitter and Reddit to comment on Futhead’s closure and reminisce about its time as the go-to FUT database website.
Reddit user zuggiz said: “Sad times, this was my OG FUT website before switching to Futbin. I’m getting old.”
Futwiz-Ruan added: “That’s sad to see. Always grateful for what they brought to the FIFA community even as “rivals”. It was nice to have friendly competition with the Futhead guys. We pushed each other into making nice stuff for the community, so definitely a shame to see it end that way.”
Crimsonpets commented: “Goddamn when I started FUT, Futhead was THE place. I’m not even sure if futbin was a thing back then. Tbh futbin with all the annoying adds. Sometimes I would find myself on futhead. What sucked though was that they no longer had live transfermarket updates.”
Jenzu9 said: “Sad to see but quite expected, thanks for the great memories Futhead! I loved the whole community aspect of it when it was at its peak active user count, that’s something that never really carried over to Futbin.”
