Gaming YouTubers and Compare the Meerkat characters announced as pundits at The Hundred cricket events in the UK

Three of the UK’s leading gaming YouTubers are set to entertain families this summer at The Hundred cricket event presented by Compare the Market.

Amassing over 7m fans between them, Captain Puffy, Dang That’s A Long Name and Solidarity Gaming will swap their video game controllers for the commentary box microphone for the first live sports commentary of The Hundred created solely for young people – bringing a new and alternative twist to the cricketing tournament.  

The cricket competition that fuses top cricket with entertainment runs from August 1st to 27th 2023 and takes place in cities across the UK.

Captain Puffy, whose real name is Cara (24), Scottish YouTuber Scott Major (27), who streams as Smajor and Jimmy (27), whose online nickname is Solidarity Gaming, will unlock a new level of punditry that promises to be ‘alternative and hilarious’, alongside Compare the Market’s Meerkat Characters and newest member, Carl the wombat.

Which days can you see the YouTubers at The Hundred?

Each gamer will take to the commentary microphone on their own bespoke day throughout the competition, offering their match day review that will leave you in stitches on the following days and times:

Wednesday 9th August

  • Gamer Commentator: Captain Puffy
  • Venue: The Kia Oval, London
  • 3pm fixture: Women’s Oval Invincibles vs Manchester Originals  
  • 6:30pm fixture: Men’s Oval Invincibles vs Manchester Originals  

Tuesday 15th August

Stepping from the virtual gaming world to the real cricket pitch, there’s a chance to meet the gaming YouTubers at The Hundred. On 15th August, all three gamers will be at The Kia Oval in London, where they will be soaking up The Hundred’s entertaining atmosphere, giving gaming enthusiasts in attendance the opportunity to meet them in real life.  

Wednesday 16th August

The Hundred Gaming YouTubers as Commentators

The Hundred is billed as ‘an action-packed cricket competition that fuses world-class cricket with blockbuster entertainment’.

With only 100 balls per team, the most runs wins, so every ball counts ensuring a more entertaining form of cricket.

Live DJs and music will be entertaining fans at the grounds too, culminating with Brit and Mobo award-winning band Rudimental performing at The Hundred Final at Lord’s on Sunday 27th August.

The Hundred, presented by Compare the Market, features eight teams from seven cities, with men’s and women’s competitions taking place side by side:

Each team features some of the best international and domestic cricketers from around the world, including players from the men’s and women’s Ashes squads.

In 2022, The Hundred attracted a total of 14.1m viewers across Sky and BBC. In addition to this, more than half a million fans attended matches, including a rise in family spectators compared to 2021.
