Austrian professional Fortnite player Vico, aka Taylor-Petrik ‘Vic0try0na’ Gatschelhofer, won Red Bull Contested in Scotland this evening.
He finished top of the overall leaderboard as the event played out all day at the McEwan Hall in Edinburgh, Scotland, as the UK’s first major Fortnite LAN.
Vico, who represents Wave Esports, is aged just 16 years old, and dominated the leaderboard to take the £17,000 top prize out of the overall £100,000 pool.
He finished with 414 points and a whopping 30 eliminations, ahead of UK player Vortexers, who had 310 points, 17 eliminatons and the £12,500 second-place winnings.
Vico went into the final game on top of the standings, with UK player Vortexers in second place.
Overall, Marco won game one, Kylie two, Vico three, Vortexers game four, Pinq game five, Bevvys game six, Vortexers game seven and Vico won the final game. This meant Vico and Vortexers claimed two victory royales each.
A host of UK players took part overall, including Pinq, Veno, Wolfiez, Hen, Nebs, Vortexers and more. UK orgs Tundra, Guild and Manchester City also had players involved in the one-day LAN tournament today.
Female player Reddysh, from Romania, also took part, as the only woman competing.
Other personalities were also in attendance, including British Warzone streamers (and Red Bull athlete) Jukeyz.
There were some technical issues, with some delays to a few matches, a couple of players playing under the incorrect gamer names and some lag, but overall it was a well-polished broadcast with some top broadcast talent at Red Bull Contested involved, including Iain Chambers, Frankie Ward and more.
Vico’s mum even got in on the action with a ‘Go Vico Go’ chant!
The stream pulled in around 5,000 concurrent viewers.
Red Bull Contested was unique in that for the final four rounds, eliminations were worth double points. And with a brand new season having just dropped, players were having to learn and adapt as they went.
Vico cries tears of joy after winning Red Bull Contested
Vico was overcome with emotion after the victory.
He told Frankie Ward after the win: “It means a lot to me, because I promised my mum and I told everyone I was going to win this, and I actually did, and that makes me happy.
“My future will [see me] win FNCS with Pinq, I hope it will be this season or at LAN, and being the best player I can be.”
Here was his winning moment:
Vico was also crowned EE Player of the Tournament.
