UK esports university body NSE (National Student Esports) has today announced the NSE Winter Cup Featuring Fortnite for UK university students.

NSE will host a two-stage online duos tournament with an online qualifier and finals.

This is the first time that Fortnite will be featured in the British University Esports Championship (BUEC), which is operated by NSE. In addition to other game tournaments like League of Legends and CSGO, students will now have the opportunity to earn BUEC points for their university by competing in this Fortnite tournament in a bid to become the ‘Esports University of the Year’, which is currently the University of Warwick.

The tournament will feature a £1,000 prize pool for those who make it into the top 16 teams. NSE will also broadcast the finals live via the NSE Twitch channel.

The finals will be played on November 1st 2022 and supported by an online broadcast across NSE’s Twitch channel.

NSE says this additional tournament will provide NSE’s 30,000+ platform members with more opportunities to compete.

Sam Hibbert, NSE business director, said:

“Given that Fortnite is one of the most popular games globally, we’re really excited to offer this opportunity to Fortnite players within the UK university community as part of the British University Esports Championship.”

In the 2021/22 academic year, the competition saw over 2,100 teams from 100 universities compete across more than 10 esports titles.

The news comes after NSE struck a partnership with Nintendo over Mario Strikers.

Sign-ups for the Fortnite tournament are open now, more information on the format and how to register can be found on the NSE Fortnite tournament page here.

Sign-ups for NSE’s BUEC Winter 2022 season across multiple games are underway and tournaments are due to start from Sunday October 16th 2022.
