Riot Games has teamed up with UK-based esports solutions provider Promod Esports to launch Northern Legends.
This is a new competitive community hub dedicated to League of Legends auto battler game Teamfight Tactics (TFT) within Northern Europe, including the UK.
With a newly launched Discord server, Northern Legends will encourage local TFT players to come together to discuss, play and compete and will be part of the TFT Regional Competition (TRCs) structure, giving talented members the chance to qualify into TFT Rising Legends Superbrawl.
During the initial recruitment phase, Northern Legends will be operating friendly weekly tournaments without prizes as the community grows. Tournaments will be held every Wednesday, starting yesterday (June 22nd 2022), with each member guaranteed to play at least four matches.
For Northern Legends members who aspire to reach the highest competitive scene, Rising Legends qualifiers will be held through the Discord server, which will award three spots to Northern European players in the upcoming Superbrawl. Players will be required to provide proof of residency in Northern Europe for Superbrawl qualifiers.
Qualification to Rising Legends is also possible via the ranked ladder or the Golden Spatula Cup.
The launch of Northern Legends coincides with the recent release of Teamfight Tactics Dragonlands, the newest set for what Riot says is the ‘world’s most-played PVP strategy game’ featuring the return of augments, alternate game modes and, of course, dragons.
Northern Europe includes the following territories: United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Denmark, South Africa, Åland Islands, Bouvet Island, Faroe Islands, Svalbard and Jan Mayen, British Indian Ocean Territory, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey, Malta, Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha and the British Virgin Islands.
What is Promod and its involvement in other Riot games?
Promod Esports is a specialist esports agency set up by former ESL UK COO Rob Black two years ago.
It focuses on creating experiences through their activations, broadcasts and tournaments. Promod works alongside IP owners such as brands, game developers and rights holders to create live broadcast content around the tournaments they deliver, as well as event management and organised play.
Promod has other links with Riot Games. Promod announced the official Valorant Regional League for Europe, Polaris, late last year, and Promod is also a part of the Valorant grassroots esports series Beacon, which launched for players in the UK, Ireland and Nordics earlier this year.
TFT is an eight-person free-for-all strategy game where players combine League of Legends champions and items in different formations to defeat the seven other players in a match. Players tactically place an army of characters on a grid-shaped game board for a last-player-standing automated battle. TFT first launched back in 2019.
TFT is one of several titles produced by Riot Games, a developer-publisher set up in 2006 by Brandon Beck and Marc Merrill.
Northern European players can join the Northern Legends Discord now, with Teamfight Tactics available to play for free on PC, iOS and Android.
