eSports (or electronic sports) has certainly evolved over the last few years with multiplayer video game competitions between professional players hogging the limelight.
We see some of the best video game genres including fighting, FPS (or first-person shooter) and MOBA (or multiplayer online battle arena) among the most popular. The Dota 2 tournament continues to be a favorite, with the last edition in 2015 awarding the biggest prize pool in the history of eSports, at over $18 million.  Evil Geniuses was the team to steal the largest pot of over $6 million. League of Legends saw 16 teams from around the world qualify last year in the League of Legends Season 4 World Champions. Hosted by Riot Games, the winners, Korean team SK Telecom T1, collected a nifty million dollars.
The Smite World Championship 2015 saw Cognitive Prime take home $1,306,130 from a prize pool worth over $2.6 million, making Hi-Rez Studios’ offer the fifth largest prize pool in eSports history.
The Americans continue to dominate the rankings in Call of Duty, with Denial eSports winning $400,000 of the million dollar prize pool at the Call of Duty Championship 2015. COD has used its latest online video game titles to host world championships.
WarGaming’s World of Tanks WGL Grand Finals 2015 saw HellRaisers – a mixed team of Belarus, Russian and Ukraine players – take home $150,000 of the $300,000 prize pool.
Counter-Strike Global Offensive (CSGO) also continues to be among the most popular eSports games, with Fnatic – a team of Swedes – winning $100,000 of the $250,000 prize pool at ESL One Cologne 2015.
