Update: LEC Commissioner Artem Bykov said Riot is launching a trial phase through to March 23rd 2025, allowing LEC teams to stream their scrims under certain conditions.
Riot Games has not allowed the planned Los Ratones GiantX scrims to be streamed, UK content creator Caedrel has revealed.
Los Ratones are of course a team in the tier two EMEA Regional League, the Northern League of Legends Championship (NLC), while GiantX are the London/Spain-based team in the tier one League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC).
The Los Ratones GiantX scrims were scheduled to take place at 4pm CET yesterday (March 9th 2025).
“We thought everything was okay and we could go ahead with the GiantX scrims, but Riot has stepped in and said that there’s a rule that prevents us from being able to scrim them on stream. It’s enforced, so we can’t play them,” Caedrel said in this clip on LEC team scrims.
“We’re going to hopefully try and resolve that, or figure out why or what it is. Hopefully we can find a way around this rule and talk to them. We were excited for the LEC scrims, but we’re going to have to hold off for now until we get more information.
‘We were aware of this rule and thought today would be fine because certain people around the scene said certain things were okay, that everything was maybe fine, and in the end, it looks like it’s not fine. So we can’t scrim on-stream, but hopefully we can figure out a solution for everyone.’
Caedrel, Los Ratones founder
“It’s no one’s fault. We will scrim Geekay Esports instead, so shoutout to them for stepping in and giving us extra practice.”
Some questioned why FlyQuest were allowed to stream their scrims against fellow North American team Cloud9 recently, but Caedrel said that apparently the LEC has a different rule to the League of Legends Championship of The Americas (LTA), and that the LTA loosened the rules.
Caedrel had hoped Los Ratones would scrim another LEC team next week too, and said he is open to scrimming off-stream, but that the goal is to scrim on-stream.
GiantX also commented on the situation, saying: “Unfortunately we will not be able to livestream the scrims. Due to this and understanding LR’s want to stream, the scrims will have to be postponed.
“We are hopeful to bring these kind of opportunities to the fans in the future.”
The news comes a week after Los Ratones won the NLC Winter 2025 grand final in Nottingham and qualified for the EMEA Masters, and Los Ratones revealed their official jersey and other merch.
And a few weeks ago, Los Ratones held a bootcamp at the GiantX HQ in London.
