Team Great Britain qualifies for ENC Dota 2 after Lower Bracket triumph

Team Great Britain has qualified for the Esports Nations Cup Dota 2 main event, battling through the lower bracket of the EUW qualifier to secure one of two available spots. As we predicted when we covered the roster announcement last month, this squad had the pedigree to make it through, and they’ve done exactly that.

The bracket tells the story of a very close run. Great Britain dropped to the lower bracket after falling 2-1 to France in the Upper Bracket Semifinals, with Finland going on to win the upper bracket side by beating France in the final. From there, Team GB didn’t drop a single series, beating Switzerland 2-0 in the Lower Bracket Quarterfinals, edging out Belgium 2-1 in the Lower Bracket Semifinal. They had to face their demons in France once again, only to beat France 2-0, learning from their previous encounter and booking their place at the ENC. Finland and Great Britain are the two nations heading to the main event from the EUW qualifier.

(Don’t worry France, you’re probably winning the World Cup proper since Mbappe, Dembele and Barcola are on another level)

It’s a solid achievement for a squad that was never going to receive a direct invite given the UK’s Dota 2 scene competing at a smaller scale internationally. That’s factoring in Ari not being there either. The roster, led by Robson “TeaGuvnor” Merritt, one of the most recognisable names in British Dota 2, proved they belonged in the qualifier from start to finish.

The ENC main event will see Great Britain join 16 directly invited nations and other qualifier teams from around the world, heading to Riyadh later in the year. It’s a proud moment for UK Dota 2.

If you’re curious, you can watch the VODs over on FalcusK’s Twitch Channel.

It means that Team GB will play against the other directly invited teams, featuring players who are well-known names in the Dota world, on big teams. They will also scrap against other teams from the other regional qualifiers, who also booked their place via their respective brackets.
