Valve releases CS2 update addressing Cache bugs and grenade mechanics

Valve has released a small Counter-Strike 2 update focused mainly on Cache fixes, grenade behaviour, workshop tools and audio.
The patch went live on May 14, with Valve’s official notes listing more material fixes and clipping adjustments for Cache. The map has also had holes patched, surface types corrected and grating added to certain windows, meaning bullets can no longer pass through them.
It is not a huge update, but it’s important for lovers of the fan-favourite map. Cache has needed several cleanup passes since its CS2 return, and small geometry changes can quickly affect lineups, spam angles, movement and retake situations.
The grenade change is also worth noting. Players can no longer cancel a grenade throw after the pin pull animation has already started near its end. That closes off a niche utility edge case, but one that high-level players would likely test and abuse if left in place.
Valve has also included general stability improvements, fixed a workshop model browser issue where the current asset was not selected when opened, and resolved a layered materials bug affecting shared surface properties.
On the audio side, NIGHTMODE II music kits now include a second round MVP anthem, which plays at a one-to-five ratio.
The Cache fixes follow earlier post-release tweaks to the map, including reported work around sound dropouts, bomb radius behaviour and smoke lighting. It continues to look like Valve is still sanding down the map rather than treating it as finished. The patch arrives less than a month after Valve’s CS2 engine and animation update.
For competitive players, the most important factor is reliability. Fewer awkward clips, fewer strange grenade interactions and fewer bullet paths through unintended gaps should mean fewer rounds decided by rough map behaviour rather than proper execution.
This also fits Valve’s recent CS2 update pattern: smaller patches aimed at competitive fundamentals rather than major headline changes. Map geometry, utility behaviour, audio and stability are not flashy, but they are exactly the sort of details that help bolster competitive integrity and save professionals from being infinitely aggrieved at what they perceive to be a map-generated injustice.
Cache will now go back under the microscope, with players and analysts testing whether the latest fixes affect wallbangs, lineups or common utility paths.
