The IEM Cologne Major 2026 has reached its playoff stage, with eight of the best CS2 teams in the world descending on the LANXESS Arena in Cologne for a single-elimination bracket running from today, June 18th, through to the Grand Final on June 21st.
IEM Cologne Major’s schedule and storylines
Today’s IEM Cologne Major action kicks off with Aurora vs BetBoom at 14:45 BST, followed by 9z vs FURIA at 18:00. Friday, June 19th, then sees Spirit take on G2 at 14:45 BST, with Falcons vs Vitality closing out the quarter-final round at 18:00. Semifinals follow on June 20th, with the Grand Final on Sunday, June 21st.
The bracket draw has generated significant discussion ahead of the playoffs, with some prominent battles to come. First off, Team Vitality, the current rulers of CS2, are facing off against Falcons. While TeamVitality will be the overwhelming favourites, it’s the return of Falcons to a Major top 8 with karrigan as the IGL that makes it interesting. He’s a player known for his honeymoon phase runs as captain, and with both sides having star players in top-form, this could be a tussle that lives long in the memory.
Vitality are the headline act, chasing an unprecedented third consecutive Major title. Standing between them and the Grand Final is a potential semifinal against either Spirit or G2, two teams more than capable of ending that run. Spirit are arguably the only team that matches Vitality’s pedigree at recent Majors, and face G2 in what looks like the standout quarterfinal of the bracket. If Spirit and Vitality both win, we’ll have last year’s finals rematch in the semifinals.
On the other side, FURIA face 9z in what shapes up as the most intriguing matchup for neutral viewers. BetBoom are the only Stage 1 qualifier left in the bracket, facing Aurora in Thursday’s opening quarterfinal. A BetBoom win would send one of the tournament’s genuine Cinderella stories into the semifinals on a path that avoids both Vitality and Spirit.
